Emigrating to Canada, where to start/what are the requirements?

Posting to help my friend.
She’s British and has a sister who moved to Canada and is now resident out there. She also has her husband from another country there as her dependent. My friend is disabled and has no support here so would like to move out there to be with her sister. What does she need to do/qualify to move out there? Is it her sister sponsoring her/a certain amount of money or would health issues /that she can’t work bar her from moving there?

Is her sister a permanent resident or has seen now got citizenship....she will make a difference

I don’t know the answer to that one, I’ll ask and get back to you!

Given her sister has moved out there I’m assuming she’s already been through the process. I believe Canada is not the easiest country to emigrate to. I’d first start by talking to the sister on how she did it and if she wants your friend to move out there. If she dose then she can start looking at the best way to do it especially if your friend has disabilities.

Alternatively, look at the Canadian immigration website to look at what options are open to your friend.

@Kitkat151 just checked, she’s a permanent resident and granted 2.5 years ago

My son had PR and now has dual citizenship....we could now apply to move over as his parents....but couldn’t when he only had PR ( not that we want to as we have 2 children and 3 grandchildren in the U.K. ) ....but we did look into it.... she needs a good Canadian migration lawyer... my son used his lawyer to get his PR and his citizenship...but it was worth the cost...As there were no issues

Thanks, had a quick look at the website, and says that her sister could sponsor her if she could prove that the sister could fund them both and friend wouldn’t claim social assistance. I’m not sure if that’s possible but it’s worth a shot i guess.

Canada does not like accepting anyone with a disability. They’ve even been known to reject children with cerebral palsy despite accepting the rest of the family.

Thanks, I thought she might not qualify and that’s why she’s not really looked into it as she knows she wouldn’t get accepted. It’s her only supportive family and would be lovely if she could go there.

I didn't think they sponsored siblings.

Not one hundred percent sure, but maybe she actually could, if she waivers sponsoring anyone else.

Re:

'You may sponsor one relative, related by blood or adoption, of any age, if you meet all of these conditions:

you (the person who wants to sponsor your relative) don't have a living relative you could sponsor instead, such as a:
spouse
common-law partner
conjugal partner
son or daughter
parent
grandparent
orphaned brother or sister
orphaned nephew or niece
orphaned grandchild
you (the potential sponsor) don’t have any relatives (aunt or uncle or any of the relatives listed above), who is a:
Canadian citizen
permanent resident
registered Indian under the Indian Act
If the relative you want to sponsor has a spouse, partner, or dependent children who will come with them to Canada, you must include them on the same sponsorship application.'

However I think she needs citizenship. She can get that after 3 years of PR, then sponsor her sister.
