Is this common in Lidl?

I'm not a fan of their versions of things but my DP goes once per month for this and that. It's a good distance away and I can't be arsed. I usually don't go with him, so can't account what it is normally like.

Well, I went today! Decided to grab a few packs of free range chicken from the raw meat section. There were plenty on offer (unlike Tesco!) so reached in to have a look. Hand caught in a sea of slime, most packs were open, film peeling back, blood and water running out of the packs. These were mini breast fillets.
Some of the crap had dripped onto shelf below and and was smeared on the glass doors. This wasn't one single accident, around 10 packs were badly damaged and open.

~What I want to know is, is this an actual health hazard? One day last year the egg shelf stank to high heaven and most of the shells were busted. The staff seemed to notice but weren't concerned.

I guess I havent noticed stuff like this where I usually shop, but am interested if it is a peculiarity of Lidl or perhaps this particular store? I know accidents happen anywhere but this was really extensive and gross. Surely they check for issues like this?

That's disgusting. I regularly go to my local Lidl and it doesn't happen there - if it did I wouldn't go there anymore! Sounds like a complaint to head office should be made maybe as that is so unsafe, they could be poisoning people.

MotherOfKitten · 02/10/2021 18:16

Ugh

My local Lidl is clean and tidy - never seen anything like that 🤮

vampirethriller · 02/10/2021 18:16

Never happened in mine!

rocklamp · 02/10/2021 18:16

The one we go to is lovely and clean, no open or damaged packs of anything. I think it's up to each store manager to ensure proper standards are maintained.

Humpthree · 02/10/2021 18:18

I have two lidls near me and they're lovely! Perhaps a store management issue with that particular store

SuperStarRose · 02/10/2021 18:18

I've never seen that in mine. It always spotless.

Maybe it was a crazy customer, certainly sounds like it.

I hope you let them know so they could clear it up

MushMonster · 02/10/2021 18:18

It is the particular people of the day! They are horrible and that is a huge health hazard.
They should have cleaned it all immediatelly

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/10/2021 18:19

This is a store problem, no Lidl I've been in has been like that. In fact I've always been impressed with the cleanliness of the stores unlike Tesco which is always minging ime

Ughmaybenot · 02/10/2021 18:19

That’s gross, but no, not normal for the Lidl I generally shop at. Variation store to store must be huge.
Also, Grin at ‘ free range chicken’

WeatherwaxLives · 02/10/2021 18:20

I've been to lidl today, as always, everything was fresh and clean (and no rotten tomatoes and peppers to seach through, which there always are in our tesco)
The staff are lovely too, friendly, chatty and they're always approachable if you need help finding something. There's no way I can see them leaving rotten eggs on a shelf!

Northernsoullover · 02/10/2021 18:21

Nope. I live so close to a Lidl it's actually my corner shop. It's clean and tidy and the staff are excellent. Perhaps report this? Or do you work for Aldi Wink?

Alfiemoon1 · 02/10/2021 18:22

Never seen that at any of my local Lidl we have 3 nearby all clean and tidy

HeyDuddy · 02/10/2021 18:23

I’ve noticed this in our local LIDL with sausages. It’s like the plastic just isn’t adhered properly. I haven’t noticed it with anything else but I don’t get meat there particularly frequently.

nimbuscloud · 02/10/2021 18:24

I go to 3 different Lidl stores. Never seen anything like that. Did you bring it to the attention of staff ?

lifecoachingandotherbollocks · 02/10/2021 18:28

Triggger warning pleaseSad

WorraLiberty · 02/10/2021 18:29

It's never happened in any Lidl I've been in.

But...

What I want to know is, is this an actual health hazard?

Is that a serious question?

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/10/2021 18:29

Aldi, is that you?

zigzagzab · 02/10/2021 18:30

Not in Lidl but I've seen it multiple times in our local Iceland

Pheasantlysurprised · 02/10/2021 18:31

Thanks for the replies.
I am wondering if it is this particular store, as many people swear by them, generally.
What does depress me is that the store is on the edge of town and surrounded by a struggling, low income neighbourhood. Perhaps the management don't think the locals would notice low safety standards.

O haven t been in a Lidl for a while but my local one was always clean. Ann's no open packs.

I think either the packs got damaged in transit and not notice when been put on the shelf of some idiot has wilfully damaged them once they are on the shelves .

loopylindi · 02/10/2021 18:32

Nothing like that in my Lidls either. In fact the quality of fresh food esp fruit and veg is better than either of the two main supermarkets - fresher, bigger, less damage.

WorraLiberty · 02/10/2021 18:32

Did you report it to staff, OP?

Pheasantlysurprised · 02/10/2021 18:33

@WorraLiberty

It's never happened in any Lidl I've been in.

But...

What I want to know is, is this an actual health hazard?

Is that a serious question?

this aint AIBU so wind yer neck in. Grin

WorraLiberty · 02/10/2021 18:34

I'm being serious OP

Do you really need to ask if it's a health hazard?

It doesn't matter which topic this is in, the question remains the same Confused

Pheasantlysurprised · 02/10/2021 18:35

@WorraLiberty

Did you report it to staff, OP?
Yes.

I quit going to this store myself a few yrs ago after getting sick of rotten or mouldy fruit and veg.
Im concluding this is basically a crap branch and will leave to at that.
