Moving to South Northamptonshire

Hi all,
I was wondering if you all can spare a few minutes to point me to any relatively safe area in South Northamptonshire as I am looking to move there soon. I understand from reading other posts that some areas are not so nice/safe. My budget is £300 or less for a 3 bedroom. I currently live in a relatively safe area in Hertfordshire but due to divorce I can't afford to buy there so have to move, besides I will like a completely new beginning and hopefully make new sets of friends. Hope someone can help me out. Thanks.

Are you looking to actually move to Northampton itself or more the villages?

East Hunsbury, Wootton and Grange Park are all nice areas close to the motorway.

SpiesRUs · 02/10/2021 16:52

If you are talking about the south of the county then Brackley and Towcester themselves are in the main nice and safe.

If you are talking about the town itself then In4mation has given you nice areas to start with.

Saxo367 · 02/10/2021 16:58

Village or town I don't really mind as long as there are nice and relatively safe.

Have a look on right move at the places suggested.

rosegoldwatcher · 02/10/2021 17:25

We have lived in East Hunsbury for three happy decades and will probably stay until carted off in a pine box!

This is a good example of what you could get for your budget - www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/113895353#/?channel=RES_BUY

Most of the stock in East and West Hunsbury are 1980s housing so be prepared for unmodernised kitchens!

SnarkyBag · 02/10/2021 17:27

Yes to East Hunsbury, Wootton or Grange Park although it’s slim pickings in the housing market right now.

Thanks all for quick response. At least I know where to start looking. Really appreciate.

Agree with others, if you're looking for south of the town then Wootton, Grange Park and East Hunsbury are all good. There are new developments on Collingtree Park and at Hardingstone if you're looking for a new build. Towcester is nice and very popular at the moment. South Northants villages are lovely too - Roade, Hartwell, Hackleton, Ashton, Quinton, Milton Malsor, Blisworth, Stoke Bruerne and the villages around Towcester are all great. Brackley and beyond are probably closer to Oxfordshire than Northampton. There are some lovely villages in North Bucks as well but once you have an MK postcode it's more expensive than an NN one.

Eggsley · 02/10/2021 17:36

Postcode wise, NN4 0/5/6/9 (closer to town) and NN7 (south Northants villages) are good places to start.

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/10/2021 17:42

All of the villages that @Eggsley has mentioned are nice. I loved living around there. Fabulous countryside, pretty villages. Good community spirit in the villages we lived in. Bus services were a bit shit, and expensive though. You’d need a car.

Eggsley · 02/10/2021 17:52

@MrsSchadenfreude yes same, we love it too. Great communities, friendly and safe. But no buses really, you'd definitely need a car. Road links are fine, plenty of open countryside for walks. Most of the villages have shops, primary schools, pub etc.

I was brought up in N'pton, it is good. We have recently sold our btl in Towcester. There are very few houses on sale now.
We used to live in the area but not with school age children.

If you are looking for pubs it's fine, a few good restaurants. There is good theatre in Milton Keynes and a good art gallery, we went to a Turner drawings exhibition there.
Everywhere you need means driving. There is a bit of a bus service around Towcester.
Excellent trains to both N'pton and MK. Euston.
Superb countryside, few tourists.
Wonderful area for history,

Try me with specific questions. PM me

Do you mean £300K or less for a 3 bedroom OP? I thought you must mean rent at first, and was worried you’d find nothing!

Saxo367 · 03/10/2021 19:21

@JanglyBeads yes I meant 300k to buy.
