Weird hip problem

I'll start by prefacing that yes it probably need to see a GP but right now it's pretty futile but I have weird hip!

I'm 41 and BMI 30. For the past 5 months when walking or so my left hip has been spontaneously moderately painful, locks up momentarily, crunches, then releases and is fine. It's difficulty to describe. It feels like it come out of the socket!! So I yelp and stumble.

I feel like I'm on borrowed time before I need a new hip.

Anyone any advice or experienced this please?

I'd see an osteopath. They are my go to for weird stuff

I used to get something like that if I'd been sitting on the floor for a while - I'd feel fine till I stood up but then it would be a bit painful and 'locked'.
I don't seem to get it any more - maybe I'm not sitting on the floor so much but it may be that I took up Pilates which is very good for hip stability as well as core.

So that might be worth a try.

The other thing is if you're doing outdoors rough/hilly walking, do use a pole (or two). And you probably don't need telling, if you can reduce your weight a bit it's less load so likely to help or at least slow down deterioration.

Are you doing repeated weighted squats at the gym? They’re apparently causing lots of hip issues in (slightly) older women like us!

I had this. Loads better since losing weight but physio thinks labral tear, improved by strengthening surrounding muscles. I can't jump or run but can cycle and do strength based stuff.

Ah thanks everyone feeling reassured.

I used to (10 years ago) do lots of spin and strength training including weighted squats so maybe that.

I might see a physio as I have back problem on the RHS.

Will Google labral tear

Already lost 2.5 stone and a couple more to go.
