If you've ever had dry socket, how long did it take to get better?

Had an extraction last week and unfortunately got dry socket.

I'm on two sets of antibiotics and have been back to the dentist a couple do times to have it dressed.

Yesterday the dentist casually dropped in that it takes "weeks" for dry socket to heal Confused.

I am in slightly less agony than I was but it still hurts a lot and I can't eat.

Everything on google says it takes 7 days but it's been 7 days for me so I know that's wrong.

10 to 14 days. Packing and clove oil better than anything else. I didn't need antibiotics as there was no infection. The worst pain ever, and I've had it twice!! I was getting it packed every other day. It wasn't extreme until day 14, but that's when it closed over.

I'm on day 5. On antibiotics and had the stitches out day 3. Pain is getting worst but have been told it will eventually settle down in 2 to 3 months

2-3 months?!!!

@Fubitch I would like to get mine packed more often but no one is suggesting that. I was the one who made the appointment to see the dentist. Have you been asking them if you can go in every other day or have they?

I continually asked them, it was the only relief, and I'd top it up with clove oil from boots. One dentist seemed to be a bit off towards the end but was happy to do it. One dentist said I'll do it however many times. You have to advocate for yourself, and covering the hole over is the only way to lessen the pain. I think you're nearly there now, and by day 10 you will be ok. It really does just switch off! Try and do things to promote healing like vitamins, sleep, stay hydrated etc. An ice pack literally numbs the area. I know it's the worst, but you're nearly there.

It took 3 weeks and 2 courses of antibiotics for me. I had mine after a wisdom tooth extraction many years ago. The clove oil made me really nauseous. I felt really unwell with it. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks @fubitch. I am so drained and worn out by it all now and ready to get my life back.

Yes, it literally takes 2 weeks out of your life. I also think I'm the only one who likes clove oil! I use an ear bud. They say it can damage your gum but I really didn't care.
