Its wooly hat season!

ArabellaStrange · 01/10/2021 19:43

Fleece hooded dressing gown from Amazon. Big oversized hoodie from Ebay. Fluffy fleece socks from amazon.
Fleece pyjamas from various places including Amazon.
Heated throw also from Amazon and slipper boots, from guess where?
Amazon.

ArabellaStrange · 01/10/2021 19:46

I do have to go outside for a large amount of the winter but am figuring I am just going to be cold when out and about with the thought of getting in to the warmth to keep me going in.

Tiggles · 01/10/2021 19:47

I have some turtle dove wrist warmers to keep hands warm when typing.
I also work from home a lot so have a fake oodie and a blanket in my study and often wear a wooly hat in their too Blush

Imcatmum · 01/10/2021 19:48

Cashmere everything.

Aran sweaters, jeans and uggs. (apparently Im out of fashion but couldnt give two fucks).

Mini skirts, high boots, and thick sweaters. Ala '90's.

CMOTDibbler · 01/10/2021 19:51

Trespass heated parka, bobble hat from the Big Bobble hat company, Alpkit wrist warmers, and an array of thermals. I'm a cold mortal who likes to cold water swim, and found my style tribe in the bag lady chic among winter swimmers

Finfintytint · 01/10/2021 19:52

I’ll be working outside for ten hours a day until Spring. I’ll be wearing thermals and lots of thin layers, some of which is work wear that is provided. Working with the army at the moment and have blagged some of their boots and hats.

AbsolCatly · 01/10/2021 19:59

Have bought skinny jeans (from Amazon) that have a fuzzy layer inside to kept me warm, plus my fake ugg style boots, thermal under layer, top & jumper those plus my fingerless gloves and a fuzzy blanket may keep me warm in the home office

I did find waterproof ski trousers in the charity shop for those really wet cold winter dog walks

CityDweller · 01/10/2021 19:59

Outside or inside?

I wfh a lot and my house is cold - it’s all about the heaviest duty Uniqlo thermals (they do three ‘levels’ - go for the thickest ones, they’re amazing), eland their heat tech jeans (so warm) or long John’s under regular trousers. Cashmere or thick woolly jumpers. Turtle doves fingerless gloves.

Outside - I’ve got an array of scarves, gloves (cashmere or fleece lined leather ones are my faves) and a warm padded parka. Bought some great insulated boots last winter - by Boggs I think. Good for winter walks.

GTAlogic · 01/10/2021 20:03

Thermal vests tucked into thermal leggings tucked into 2x pairs of socks. Trousers and T-shirt or a pair of PJs over the top and a thicker top on over that.

GTAlogic · 01/10/2021 20:06

Knitting big things in super chunky yarn also keeps me warm on the settee on an evening!

lljkk · 01/10/2021 20:06

brands?

Lots of layers. Doesn't matter what brands they are.

I get a lot of exercise, so that means at least once a day I get very hot.

Figmentofimagination · 01/10/2021 20:06

Oversized hoodie to keep warm when sedentary at home. You can get cheaper ones from Amazon, or Oodie sell more expensive ones that are currently £25 off. I have just bought the oodie as I read reviews that it was thicker and longer than the cheaper ones. Arrived the next day and it's so comfy. I'm currently living in it.
Thick pj bottoms/fleecy pj bottoms. Wear them all the time in the day, might as well be comfy since I'm not going anywhere.
Slipper boots. I've had mine for a year now from primark. They are lasting really well and I've worn them nearly every day, even in summer when working at home.
We have fleece blankets for snuggles on the sofa, but my favourite is actually a single duvet. Makes me feel so snug and warm.
Hot water bottle. A full kettle usually is enough water for 1 cup of tea and a full hot water bottle. I will fill it up in the morning when I start work and it lasts me about 4 hours.
Layers are your friend. So most days I wear a cheap primark vest underneath a top when its colder. My vests are sometimes tucked into my trousers with tops over the top of the trousers, this stops the chill when tops ride up. Outside I'll layer more with a hoody and a waterproof windbreaker. Go a size up with the windbreaker so you can wear more layers underneath.
I've also just bought myself some waterproof trainers from next to keep my feet warm and dry on walks to school (not had to deal with it before now as DS has only just started reception).

womaninatightspot · 01/10/2021 20:07

Ski gloves, didrikson coat, muck boots, a hat and a variety of scarves so I don't look exactly the same every day. I bought a great pair of ski gloves out of TK Maxx 9 years ago and they are so cosy. Def. worth investing in proper ones.

Thighdentitycrisis · 01/10/2021 20:08

In one word - wool

AppleButter · 01/10/2021 20:11

Essential is an underlayer of vest + tummy warmer (a polyester tube that keeps your middle warm) - and on top: Cotton or thermal rollnecks/turtlenecks under a fleece sweater. A gilet on top if required. And warm secondhand uniqlo thermal trousers.

Am expecting a cold winter ☹️

Cattitudes · 01/10/2021 20:27

Ovesized oodie, have just ordered these fleece jogging bottoms. Toying with the idea of getting some fleecy slipper socks. Can't decide whether to put them on my Christmas list (I am really hard to buy for) or just go ahead and order them myself because winter will be half over by Christmas (I know technically not, but weatherwse). Fortunately I work at home and no one sees me. Children are older so not as many school runs. I have to remember to take oodie off when I go out! I do have a series of slightly more flattering jumpers and a coat.

Porcupineintherough · 01/10/2021 20:30

My tip is to get one of those electric heating pads that the sell for the elderly (like a mini electric blanket) and stick it up your jumper. V cheap to run and keeping your core warm really helps.

MsMarple · 01/10/2021 20:33

Layers of real wool is the answer for me. I have to look vaguely smart for work. It’s inside, but with the windows open for Covid ventilation it got chilly last winter. I wore long sleeved base layer, underneath Gap 100% merino polo neck jumpers (they have 40% off this weekend so might buy another colour!) and then a thicker longline wool/cashmere cardigan on top of that. With long socks, knee warmers and some cashmere fingerless gloves as well I was actually quite warm!

MsMarple · 01/10/2021 20:35

Ps Woolovers cardigans and jumpers are a bit expensive (for my budget anyway) but the ones I have are cosy and good quality.

GraceAnatomy · 01/10/2021 20:47

Primark usually sell thick fleecy lined leggings at this time of year, they're so soft inside. I have 3 pairs of them for when it's freezing, and I wear them under my trousers. I couldn't care if it makes my bum look a wee bit fatter, these leggings are one of my favourite things about winter. I hate being cold.

BigButtons · 01/10/2021 20:59

Thank you!
I layer up to the extent that I can barely move.
I have a Didriksons coat which is a life safer.
I have neck warmers. Scarves and thermals. Wear multiple socks tights under trousers, electric fleece blanket, gilet under the coat . Currently sporting an old Bench fleece which is super warm.
Thanks for the tips on the heated thing you can stuff up your jumper. Will get an oodie for sure.
I hate being cold more than words can express.
I am thinking of getting some sorrel boots.
I have never bought a thermal that has been great though.

Fleece lined leggings/jeggings/trackies- sometimes doubled up. Long sleeve tight tops under crew neck jumper. For going outside I wear a jumper, hoodie and fleece over the top. Long scarves and bobble hats I usually get from primark for about £4 each. I have some vintage thermal gloves that are warmer than anything else I've tried. I wear a pair of thin ankle socks plus tight knit long socks and dr martens. I have a plug in electric heat band thing to keep my joints and back warm and an Army surplus wool blanket.

I've also found elasticated jersey skirts work as excellent torso warmers, without the bulk of sleeves/straps. It can help to keep your top tucked into trousers too and keep one's back warm.

MistyFrequencies · 01/10/2021 21:16

Icebreaker. They make hoodies, dresses, t-shirts, everything from Merino wool. So comfortable and so warm. They're pricey but last forever, I've had one hoody for nearly 8 years and it's only starting to get old looking now.

CosmicComfort · 01/10/2021 21:18

Thick thermal socks
Layers and layers
Oversized fleece lined hoodie at home (cheap version of an oodie)
