So, I kept putting off switching my tariff as the current one had ended and so it just went into the standard variable. Currently paying £140 a month, but overpaying, nearly £200 in credit. Was 'busy' 🙄 I've now gone to do it and the cheapest I can get with my current provider is £267 a month!!! Next best is Octopus at £222 a month!! Can't help thinking I've been really bloody stupid. I'm a single mum to three, already working full time and although we'll just about be able to afford it it's going to mean struggling in other areas. Any advice?! 🤦‍♀️

@Arabelladrinkstea

Stop paying them. Google it, there’s loads of people not, try searching under common law

Wait, what?
What do you mean? Just not pay? I don't understand Confused

Even Martin Lewis is saying it's a good option to stick with the variable rate. For once!

Ive found a wesbite I can type it all into (the mse) and change the variables.

It looks like the tarrif I loved to is £100 more a year however foxed for 2 years. It is very likely the svr will go up and from what I can see more than 100 a year... so it looks like I mught be better to stay on the fixed tarif.

Bizarrely if I tried to move now my tarif has a v2 which is £200 more than the v1 tarif!!!

It seems, from what I read this morning, that it's better not to fix your prices now and stay on the variable rate tariff until at least April, when the price cap gets reassessed.

God knows what's going on with ours though, as we were with two of the companies that went bust within the last couple of weeks.

OP, has a meter reading been carried out recently? Unless you've got a massive house, that seems like quite a large amount they're asking you to pay. We're with Bulb, currently paying £65pm and in credit £149 - they want to increase payments to £84pm but I'm ignoring for now. I looked about 3/4 weeks ago and there was nothing cheaper.

Yes, frequently. I have a smart meter for the electricity and submit gas myself. We use around £100 of electricity a month. We're home a lot though, I work from home, kids are always using something, the tumble drier, dishwasher or washing machine are ALWAYS on the go, if not all at once then there's always just one running
