Politically homeless voters, what will you do?

For any of those who find themselves in this situation, if you wasn’t allowed to vote Tory or Labour (pretend those two options are off the cards) who would you vote for? Or would you spoil your vote?

I wouldn’t positively vote for any political party right now. I’m probably naturally in the centre and political parties seem to be veering to one side or other at the moment. None of them are offering something I feel I could positively choose much less get excited about.

I’d probably either vote for a good local independent candidate if we had one, or in a tactical way to keep out the truly unpleasant far right parties. In reality though I live somewhere that will always be Tory, it would take a political earthquake to shift them.

I just spoil my ballot paper.

Generallystruggling · 30/09/2021 13:14

Spoil my paper. Something along the lines of ‘stop trying to eradicate women’.

Parky04 · 30/09/2021 13:16

Spoil my paper.

leafinthewind · 30/09/2021 13:18

I just resigned from the Lib Dems. I feel able to vote for my local candidates, but I don't know about the General Election. Plenty of time yet for everyone to realise that woman=adult human female.

BahHumbygge · 30/09/2021 13:21

I'd look into the individual candidates, and see if their views align with mine, even if their main parties didn't. For instance, I'd likely vote for Rosie Duffield if I lived in Canterbury, even though I feel antipathy to the Labour party in general. Otherwise spoil my paper or quietly abstain.

Sonarl · 30/09/2021 13:24

I cant vote for either Labour or Tory at the moment (lifelong Labour supporter up to the last election).

I think I'm going to vote Green going forward, or not vote, which is just ridiculous to me, never thought i would be in this position.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/09/2021 13:27

I vote for the least bonkers of the independent candidates or those from small parties. It seems a little more constructive than spoiling my paper as I think the existence of those candidates is a good thing for democracy and it might help someone not to lose their deposit.

Beamur · 30/09/2021 13:31

I used to feel reasonably comfortable voting for my local Labour candidate as he's a good local councillor. Tory held seat with pretty appalling MP but I'm not sure I can do this going forward. So very disappointed with the Labour party. Wouldn't vote Lib Dem or Green either.

WoMandalorian · 30/09/2021 13:36

Plaid Cymru or Green Party. Probably Plaid though. I wish everyone would agree to do that (not vote labour or tory) and all the smaller parties could form a coalition! Even just for 4 years I'd be very interested to see what could be achieved without one big party in charge.

FourTeaFallOut · 30/09/2021 13:41

I'll only consider a vote for the those who can hurdle the most basic requirement of representing women in parliament by knowing what one is. So currently, no one.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/09/2021 13:41

It depends on the actual situation and candidates. I came close to spoiling in the last election but held my nose and voted for a minority party which counts for very little in our safe seat, but in the big picture, I want smaller parties to keep putting candidates out.

Local elections are for local issues.

I have been onown to vote for different parties on the same day.

Mariell · 30/09/2021 13:48

Locally they are mainly crap although one lady I am keeping an eye on as she is yet unproven.

Nationally I hope Anne Marie Waters is able to get more attention and build up For Britain.

I said on another thread that I am a lifelong Tory voter but feel politically homeless now. Our local (Tory) MP is a good man and works hard for local issues so I haven't hesitated voting for him, but the rest of them can do one.

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 30/09/2021 13:58

I’ll do what I always do - vote for the MP that is likely to be the best representative for my local area. As it happens that has been the Conservative candidate for a number of years now (and as it’s an absolutely massive majority, and has been for over forty years, there’s probably not much chance of him being ousted). However, the Green Party candidate has run a close second in terms of being the best representative for this area, but so far I haven’t been able to bring myself to vote Green. But now I’m pinning my hopes on Shahrar Ali, and he is making them much more of a prospect for me right now.
