Help, Any Dentists about?

My DS,24 needed a filling last year, but because of covid it got left....
Yesterday he went to the dentist who agreed he needed a filling in a molar. Dentist began drilling and the whole tooth cracked, so long story short, after almost an hour in the chair the dentist took the tooth out. DS had to sign a waiver incase the dentist broke his jawConfused
But he couldn't get the root out so DS has to wait 4-5 months for a hospital appointment to get the root out.
DS is still in pain this morning.
Does all this sound normal? The last time any of us had a filling was about 10 years ago.

Isit the same kind of pain? Leaving the root in dosent usually cause any problems but I'd contact the dentist again and let them know you're in pain. It will be longer than 4-5 months. I work in a dental hospital and am getting round to referrals from 2 years ago atm.

Sorry I asked if it's the same kind of pain because he's had work done and a tooth out so some sort of pain is expected

It could be infected or the start of an abscess, so I’d be ringing up for advice.

Yes Normal. Will take about a week to heal; if they've been tugging at his tooth it will of bruised his face/jaw as well.

Oh wow, 2 years! I tried to ask DS what kind of pain, was it throbbing or like toothache?
He says it hurtsHmm
He's got antibiotics and paracetamol.
I'm hoping for all our sakes it's just sore from the extraction and will calm down today.
Is it usual to leave a root in? And will it cause any problems if it's left in there so long?
Thanks for answering! Really appreciate it.

It's more like 18 months for dental treatment at the hospital here and that's for a first consultation.

Thanks, is it OK for the root to stay in for all that time then?
