Jollof rice and a sauce beginning with N?

Had a fabulous curry from a market stall recently and want to recreate the jollof rice if anyone has an authentic recipe.
It also came with a spicy sauce beginning with N if someone could point me in the right direction?
Oh it wasn't Naga I know that muchConfused

This is the recipe we use - not sure how authentic it is:

Not sure what the sauce would have been?

Nduja?

Ndole? Ndolé? It's a stew with peanuts in it I think. I remember having it in one of those spice box subscriptions once.

Nigerian jollof rice recipe

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 29/09/2021 17:59

Ooh it might have been Ndjua! I'll Google it.
I had a look at the Goodfood one, it got God awful reviews (Sorry purplesquirrel) Smile
Thanks iklboo, I'll have a look at that.

I think the BBC one is the one my 12 year old daughter did this weekend. Bless her she tried but it was not good, even she didn't eat it! Looking closer at the recipe there's no scotch bonnet peppers and it definitely needs that.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 29/09/2021 18:13

No it wasn't ndjua, that's Italian.
Wish to buggery I could remember Confused

As I said, it's not authentic but it tastes nice to us 🤷‍♀️ I don't like scotch bonnets, too hot for me. Just trying to be helpful.

Takingaleap · 29/09/2021 18:17

Surely not nkwobi???

NotSoNewAndShiny · 29/09/2021 18:21

I've never known Jollof rice to have a sauce. Jollof rice is basically what @iklboo posted. Some come with a twist. So it could have been a separate 'pepper sauce' twist the person added to it but I doubt you'd find it in general as an accompaniment to jollof rice.

It could also have come from any number of cultures so would be hard to guess what it is. If you know the stall, could you go back and ask?

Googling to see if I can find something.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 29/09/2021 18:28

Sorry purplesquirrel, I didn't mean to appear ungrateful.
Apologies Flowers

No it wasn't nkwobi either, perhaps it was just a personal twist as you say shiny.

Mistymountain · 29/09/2021 18:41

Perhaps it was Obe Ata Dindin, it's a pepper sauce?

NotSoNewAndShiny · 29/09/2021 18:46

Are you sure it starts with a N? I've seen a few pepper sauce but none of them start with an N except to say 'Nigerian Pepper Sauce'.

NotSoNewAndShiny · 29/09/2021 18:47

Just saw your post Misty. I also saw that sauce. It's why I wanted to know if it must start with an N. Smile

smallandimperfectlyformed · 29/09/2021 18:47

purplesquirrel I'm sorry, I didn't mean to criticise you and your families tastes but I can see how it could have looked that way. I am sorry and hope that I haven't hurt your feelings too much.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 29/09/2021 18:50

Absolutely it started with an N.

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit, did you see this post?
Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 29/09/2021 18:54

Niaja, would it be that?
No it's not the peanut one, it was a red sauce.

OP posts:
NotSoNewAndShiny · 29/09/2021 18:55

Do you mean Naija? That's short or slang for Nigeria and Nigerian.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 29/09/2021 18:58

That sounds like it!

OP posts:
NotSoNewAndShiny · 29/09/2021 18:59

Does it look like this? That would be Ata Dindin (also called Nigerian or Naija Pepper Sauce).

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 29/09/2021 19:00
