Washing period pants

I've bought DD period pants from Primark. They are fab!

Question is, they say to wash out all of the blood before washing them as normal in the washing machine. Is that necessary, do you think, or is it to help people who feel a bit squeamish about them going in with the rest of the washing. We used reusable nappies so very happy not to prewash, so want to understand why it is recommended.

Thank you!

Rinse with cold water before washing and put in wet bag until ready to wash. If I’m getting in the shower I sometimes rinse in there while water is running.

Can you tumble dry them?

SirChenjins · 01/10/2021 22:19

Yes to powder, no to fabric softener. I haven't always used Milton, that was to try and resolve the problem. They've actually been known to make a whole load of washing smell off and have to be rewashed.
I tend to wash them separately from the rest of the the wash but I don’t know if that makes a difference. I’ve never had any smell from them though.

I rinse in water and then wash on their own as you can't put fabric softener in with them.

I've heard the Primark pants leak, my DD (14) likes Modibodi and Wuka but they are pricey. Are they worth a try then?

I bought my daughter some last week, they looks great so I might buy some. I've been using reusable pads for years and have never rinsed them before I put them in the wash.

@ThirtyCharacterUsernamesOnly30 No, I have Modibodi and I’ve just had to buy an extra set for winter as they take ages to dry! I think if they have merino/bamboo tumble drying shrinks them. It is a pain though, as they take days to dry. Even when it’s sunny and warm here, they never seem to be fully dry after a whole day on the line. I usually use the maxi/24 hour ones.

I really don’t rate the Modibodi ones I have - I got the recycled fabric ones and don’t find them comfy at all. They’re advertised as full briefs which I like but they’re really high legs so half of my bum cheeks are exposed and I spend most of my time dealing with a wedgie which is not what I want when I’m dealing with a heavy period.

I really like my Cheeky Wipes full briefs for heavy flow as they give full bum cheek coverage and have Primark ones for lighter days or if I’m wearing a towel but want security against possible leaks.

That's good to know. My back garden doesn't get much sun in the winter and I don't have an airing cupboard; so they're probably not for me.

SirChenjins · 02/10/2021 10:28

I just hang mine over the central heating radiators which dries them in no time - if you have radiators that might be another option

ChrissyPlummer · 02/10/2021 12:37

Are they OK after doing that @SirChenjins? The instructions say to dry away from direct heat. God, I hate our crappy weather Angry

SirChenjins · 02/10/2021 12:58

Absolutely fine! I hadn’t seen the instructions about keeping away from heat Blush
