Peloton bike - reviews?

I've got a surprise chance to get a big discount on a peloton bike but looking online I'm not sure you can use it as just a standard exercise bike, e.g if the Wi-Fi goes down or if I want to follow a less mills spin class on my laptop rather than a peloton class. Has anyone got one that can shed some light on how they actually work and their limitations? It would be in our garage where out Wi-Fi isn't very strong.

I've been thinking of buying a Peleton (bike+) so am interested in the responses to your post

Get a Wattbike. Much better

Get a real bike and a smart trainer (wahoo kickr) for the same money and use Zwift - much better value and you have a bike you can use outside if ever you want

Well I got it because I didn't fancy the idea of classes - just not my style. And I was told by a friend who's a professional athlete that they're what all the serious athletes have, so it piqued my interest. (Or should I say vanity!)

What I like about it is it has loads of plans you choose to follow that alter the resistance automatically. Meanwhile you slot in your iPad and watch TV or read the web or whatever - for me, this is hugely preferable. (Or lots of people put Zwift on their iPad.)

There is also no monthly subscription. Once you've paid for the bike, that's it.

I have used mine religiously for ages while I've watched friends with Pelotons lose interest. I absolutely love it.

NB this is not meant to be an attack on Pelotons as obviously lots of people love them. Mad I know they have dropped the price recently so they are cheaper.

But I am so so glad I got my Wattbike - I think it's the Atom Next Generation.

Have a look at both as it's horses for courses

I love the peloton but don’t know anything about the Watt Bike so I would research both.
I love the different instructors, music styles and the fact you can do classes at any time. I find the instructors really motivate me and are better than a lot of the instructors at my previous gym.

I have the bike plus so it turns the resistance up for me which I love as I can then really get into the class with no distractions.

If you want £100 off then you’re welcome to use my referral code BPZ-JAH. I get £100 off clothing as well.
Any questions please ask.

We have a wattbike. We do have a monthly subscription though to Zwift. My husband is a keen cyclist, road bike , mountain bike etc and he uses it to train.
I use the bike with a Zwift subscription. It has a virtual world called watopia, with lots of different routes and scenes like underwater, volcano. You are cycling live with other people from around the world. It also has worlds based on real cities, different length routes and gradients. You get rewarded for the amount you cycle, in terms of upgrading your clothes and equipment.
I have cycled over 1000 miles on it. I did have a break for a few months but I’ve just got going on it again. I listen to music as I cycle.

TwoMuchTwoYoung · 29/09/2021 22:14

Oh and so answer your question then I think you can put it on -just ride -so you could use your laptop etc.

Givemestrengthorvodka · 30/09/2021 14:36

Thanks everyone. @TwoMuchTwoYoung can you still change the resistance manually on the plus bike?

Hi
Yes you can, so if you're in a live class you have to. And even if you've chosen auto follow you can still alter it as you're using it.

Batshittery · 30/09/2021 14:44

I have a Peloton and I love it. I cycle almost everyday, but I also do strength and meditation classes. The Les Mills classes won't show up on the Peloton screen but you could put your iPad/phone on the handlebars and follow that way. I don't know anything about the watt bike I'm afraid.

mypetpeave · 05/01/2022 11:10

Yes with peloton you can use it without paying the monthly subscription and put it on a setting called just ride (acts like a standard exercise bike).

I really like the classes there are loads on. If you do the same classes as your friends (either live or not live), it shows you how they were doing at that particular point in the class so you can race against them, which is a great motivator.

If anyone needs a referral code (£100 off accessory package, so you get compatible shoes with purchase) my code is FGEKNZ

If the wifi is weak in your garage, you can get an extender that works through plug sockets, or a Mifi unit if you have good mobile data coverage and and allowance on your phone service.
