Something that wouldn't be expensive or political, but something to get out of the house and meet people. Not sports either. What to do and where to find?
In the past i did some cookery classes, then a little woodwork project, but these were short-term things.

Book club
Ask at local places that hire out rooms what groups meet and see if they'll give you details
Drama groups (if you don't want to be on stage then backstage helpers are always welcome)
Offer to make drinks for a local toddler group
If you're old enough for the U3A (is it 50? 55?) they often run lots.
Choirs
Volunteer-charity shops

BamboozledandBefuddled · 28/09/2021 19:15

Assortment of craft meet-up groups.

I was just about to attend my first ukulele club meeting when Covid hit. They are still virtual, but I do plan to join when they go back to in-person some days.

  • My MIL volunteers weekly at an older age supper type club. 2 course meal for £6 and transport included if needed.
  • Volunteer at a soup kitchen/refuge/food bank
  • Photography
  • Walk other peoples dogs
  • Sign up for an allotment. You might be lucky to get one in 10yrs, depending on your area.
  • Our local library often have short courses. Home DIY, cooking, languages etc
WellTidy · 28/09/2021 19:21

Rock choir

Walking dogs/mucking out/whatever you would feel comfortable with at a local rescue centre

I am working out how I can spend time volunteering. I feel passionately about food poverty so thinking of offering my services to the felix trust or the food bank.

CatsArePeople · 28/09/2021 19:40

I already help out at foodbank and at church. Can't sing (unless you want to hear a cat being squashed), would love to do something more creative/crafty, but seems like with covid all those things dried up. I tried organizing a book club, but then again - covid struck Sad

Does your church or another local one have bells? Ringing is a fantastic hobby and is just starting to re-emerge after covid, they are desperate to attract new people (as well as hoping past ringers do actually go back to it).

You can check if a church has bells here on Doves Guide

Embracelife · 28/09/2021 19:54

You can learn to sing
Join a non audition choir and don't sing loudly at first

Rizzoli123 · 28/09/2021 20:14

I am in a choir and love it. I also knit and cross stitch. My aunt tells me to buy all my wool from the works and pound land. Could also try oragami, scrapbooking or find classes local that do different crafts.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 28/09/2021 20:17

I'm a member of the Tolkien Society and of the local group. We meet twice a month. You only need money for the pub or for a bottle of wine.

5BlackDoors · 28/09/2021 20:23

I never thought I was a person who had hobbies.

But I seem to;

  • local choir every 2 weeks (although I am considering dropping it)
-outdoor swimming every friday -book club / supper club every month -I go to and review local pubs on a food blog

I have started a weekly baking session with the DCs every friday night. This week is courgette muffins.

5BlackDoors · 28/09/2021 20:23

Oh, and afriend of mine has joined a local historical maritime society. £20 a year and they do monthly meets with guest speakers and some field trips (oh and drink alot in pubs).

5BlackDoors · 28/09/2021 20:26

I also scrapbook-I call them my 'memory books;' and I stick in things like concernt tickets and postcards to things we have gone to and write little accoutns of trips away. It;'s just for me.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 28/09/2021 20:26

Horticultural societies, local history/museum groups, photography, chess club, bridge club, help on a sports club bar even if you don't want to do the sport itself, you wouldn't be the first.

If you have a dog, join a training club - agility, scent work, whatever.

Our local churches run all sorts of things. local credit union, food bank, youth hub, parent and toddler groups.

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 28/09/2021 20:27

My hobbies are:

Swimming (at school where I swim with a group of like minded Mums)
Playing the piano for which I have just started lessons again after 25 years
Taking DD riding and doing yard jobs with her horse, have made several friends through this.
Cake decorating - I have a small business which gives me a nice creative outlet
I play tennis is summer

DaphneDeloresMoorhead · 28/09/2021 20:27
