PP pretty much covered it.
Antibiotic.
Pretty common first line.

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 28/09/2021 17:57

It's the bog standard first line antibiotic for minor actual or suspected bacterial infections.

HateJudgmentalPeople · 28/09/2021 17:57

Yes, had it for a gum abscess and no side effects, it’s a very common antibiotic and effective.

oldstudentmum · 28/09/2021 17:57

Google it. Nhs website might help. Used for pneumonia and infections.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 28/09/2021 17:58

It's a blood thinner?

What's up, OP? You can get the BNF app if that helps at all?

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 28/09/2021 17:59

That's in response to the OP's second message.

Rivaroxaban, sold under the brand name Xarelto among others, is an anticoagulant medication used to treat and prevent blood clots. Specifically it is used to treat deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary emboli and prevent blood clots in atrial fibrillation and following hip or knee surgery. It is taken by mouth

I wondered whether they will work without taking them with food?

OP posts:
back123456 · 28/09/2021 18:02

I've been on these since July and I feel so ill. I've got the symptoms I had just before I had blood clots and I just can't remember to take them with food.

I can't go back to a and e they will think I'm mental.

Rivaroxaban- it's a novel oral anticoagulant (NOAC) seems to have varying degrees of side effects in people. If you haven't side effects that's great, especially if your alternative is a different style of anticoagulant that might need more monitoring. Remember to tell your dentist you take it in case you ever need a tooth extracted.
Bad luck about writing the wrong one first, prepare yourself for all the answers to amoxicillin

If you think you may have a blood clot then yes, off to A&E you go!

If you think you're not getting on with your prescribed medication then book a non urgent GP appointment to discuss it.

StrongSunglasses · 28/09/2021 18:09

Banana medicine 😍

back123456 · 28/09/2021 18:11

I just wondered how vital it was to take with food.

The package and NHS website both say it's important to take with food. Sometimes I don't. I have issues where I forget.

Maybe the drugs aren't working.
Or maybe it's a side effect of the drugs and you need a different kind.

www.gov.uk/drug-safety-update/rivaroxaban-xarelto-reminder-that-15-mg-and-20-mg-tablets-should-be-taken-with-food

What dose are you on? This link to the drug safety alert which explains the importance of taking the higher doses with food.

If you are having symptoms of a blood clot you do need to go to A&E. Especially if you haven’t been managing to take the medication properly. Hope you feel better soon.

waybill · 28/09/2021 18:20

Just go to A&E, that's what they are there for.

Whenigrowupiwanttobea · 28/09/2021 18:22

Rivaroxoban is an anticoagulant. In some cases it is being phased into replace warfarin.
