If I earn £70 how much will I come out with after tax?

I work 4 days a week and have been looking for a weekend job to supplement income.

Been offered few hours on a Sat and pay is £70 - so how much will I come out with after tax etc. Is there a rule of thumb for taking X% off???

It depends how much of your personal allowance is used by your other job

Excellent calculator

Assuming you already pay tax but not in high income category it will be 20% won’t it?

PeonyTime · 28/09/2021 10:52

Is it for the same company, or a different one - will affect NI, and pension requirements.
What tax do you pay at the moment? Will you work often enough to tip you into the next tax band?
Basically, it's impossible to say with the information given.

No it's temp work until Christmas.

Other job is just 4 days a week pro rata (£20,000 per year)

Take off 20% tax and 12% NI, assuming you will be on BR.

Depends if all your allowance is used up in your other job. If it is and you’re not a higher rate tax payer a rough estimate is take 1/3 off.

Cheekytea · 28/09/2021 11:07

You be on a br tax code which is 20% without fail

mrsdavegrohl · 28/09/2021 11:07

If you use up all your tax allowance in your main job it will be 20% tax. No NI

Cheekytea · 28/09/2021 11:08

20% of 70 will leave you with £56

prediction500 · 28/09/2021 11:09

If it's a second job then you shouldn't pay NI. Assuming that you have used all your personal allowance in your main job (if you already pay tax - excluding NI - then you would have used your personal allowance) then the new job will be taxed at 20%, so £14.

SortCode · 28/09/2021 12:47

Yes get taxed and NI in my first job
So this second job would be 20% off so £56 6 hours work

I would call Hmrc and explain to them the situation and ask them for advice

HopeHappy · 28/09/2021 13:32

When you start, call HMRC and inform them that it's a second job. They should put you on a BR tax code for it, where you'll pay a straight 20% tax.

You won't pay any NI as unlike tax where you just get one Personal Allowance across all your earnings, you get a NI free allowance per job. You should, therefore, end up with £56 after tax.
