Hayfever - in September?

I usually find that my hayfever has gone by late July/early August, but every time I've tried to stop taking antihistamines this year the runny nose, itchy eyes etc have come back. Does anyone else still have hayfever symptoms in September?

Trees? I've never had hay-fever till the last few years. Now live near to a row of mature trees, different varieties. I het 'hay fever' symptoms first when they flower, then when the blossom turns into seeds and now when the leaves fall and disintegrate.

Yes, it's late tree pollen or something like that. I've had it the last few years so keeping on the antihistamines and steroid inhaler until at least the end of October.

Yup.

It's been horrific this year.

Yes me too. Itchy eyes and a lot of sneezing.

beenrumbled · 27/09/2021 12:31

Yep. Trees and mould spores from fallen leaves

knightsinwhitesatin · 27/09/2021 12:32

I have had it terribly for about a month now. I thought I had suddenly turned allergic to my dog!! But am pretty sure it’s hayfever, must be allergic to some trees near my flat. Horrible, hope it goes soon

CrumpleHornedSnowcack · 27/09/2021 12:32

yep, it's my worst time of year, very allergic to mould

Vanillaradio · 27/09/2021 12:50

Yep. Mine had eased off but kicked back in really badly this weekend. Its definitely tree related for me and its usually at its worst in March/April with the pollen but has been really bad for the whole season this year.

GiantHaystacks2021 · 27/09/2021 12:54

Yep, I always have it well into October. Starts up again in April.

Olinguito · 27/09/2021 13:21

Thanks all. You've confirmed what I suspected - what a bugger. Mine starts with tree pollen in March, but I've never known it go on this long before. At this rate we'll all be on antihistamines nearly all year round Sad

I always get bad hayfever, but this year has been easily the worst I can remember. I’ve had to stop wearing my contacts altogether because my eyes are unbearably itchy, and it still hasn’t abated. Argh!!

Olinguito · 27/09/2021 18:06

Thank you for the links to the Worcester Uni site @AllotmentTime - that explains a lot! I've often noticed my hayfever being worse after rain, which was puzzling, but the release of mould spores seems a very likely cause. I just hadn't realised that hayfever could be triggered by mould.
