Oven has died. Is replacing the stove the only option?

Our gas oven has died and is looking unrepairable.

We'd rather not buy a new freestanding stove right now, as we're hoping to have a completely new kitchen with fitted hob and eye level oven next year. Besides, the rest of the stove still works perfectly well.

But dh is devastated at the idea of not doing roast dinners, especially at Xmas, so we need the big oven. We've also got a combi microwave, and often use both ovens at the same time.

Is there another solution?

Bbq for turkey?

Order in the roast dinner?

A plug in thing like a halogen oven?

I got an oven on freecycle some years back - I later gave it away that way when I moved to a place with a fitted kitchen.

A countertop halogen oven could be a good compromise.

I suggested BBQing the roast on Christmas Day. Dh was deeply shocked Grin "We are not Australian!"

We were in the same position but decided it was too much to live without an oven for 6 months so bought a fancy range to fit the existing gap and will design the new kitchen around it instead of having the eye level ovens as we’d previously planned.

We have replaced the element in our oven twice now. Around £20.

You can get a freestanding oven the size of a micro wave quite cheap .

Have a look locally on facebook marketplace or ebay.

Our oven stopped working recently and, as we want to replace the kitchen in the next year or so, it wasn't worth buying a new one. We found a second hand one locally for around £70 that slots straight into the gap left by the old one.

The bonus was it was a better make and cleaner than the one it replaced!
