If you hire a cleaner, how big is your house?

I live in an average sized 3 bed semi. One main bathroom, one downstairs loo. DH and I both have busy jobs, we have 2 young DC, one still in nursery. We find it very hard to do all the house jobs on a regular enough basis, especially washing the downstairs floors, hoovering upstairs, cleaning the bathroom. Normal stuff like laundry, dishes, sweeping up, general tidying is OK. I really feel like my house isn't big enough to justify an occasional cleaner, and we should just be able to cope. On the other hand, not having to do it, and it being done would be amazing. What are other peoples' experiences?
Thanks

I'm in a 6 bed, 2 reception room, main bathroom, shower room and downstairs loo. My cleaner comes weekly for 3 hours. She's worth her weight in gold.

4 bed detached, i had them in my last house which was a 3 bed semi, i have them fortnightly. Definitely worth it, everything is so shiny when they are done

Sleepyquest · 26/09/2021 19:54

I have a cleaner once a fortnight to do the jobs I can't bear and am not very good at (bathroom scrubbing). Takes the pressure off! I would rather work overtime at my job than clean my house. We have a 3 bed house with 3 bathrooms

I live in a small house. I work full time and have a toddler

My cleaner comes every week for 2 hours. Could really do with twice a week though.

I hate cleaning

Sexnotgender · 26/09/2021 19:56

5 bed, study, 2 living rooms.

I have a weekly cleaner and I love her.

JoborPlay · 26/09/2021 19:59

I was planning one for our small 3 bed semi. But we moved shortly after I returned to work. We do now have a cleaner (4 bed semi) but I'd have a cleaner even if I lived in a 1 bed flat! Love having a cleaner.

I am considering a cleaner. My life consists of permanently cleaning or working.

If I get one for say 3 hours a week, what can I expect for my money?

ShrikeAttack · 26/09/2021 20:01

You don't have to 'Justify' a cleaner or anything else @BlueRaincoat1, if it would make your life easier and you can afford it, get any domestic help you need.

You will be employing someone.

What do you mean? He or she will clean your house, change your beds etc as per your instruction Confused

What else do you think they do 😂

In 3 hours ours hoovers throughout and mops hard floors, cleans kitchen, cleans bathroom, cleans surfaces and mirrors and dusts.

What's the point in working if you have to clean. Fucking hate it. Our cleaner will have been off sick for 10 months when she finally comes back. I've cracked and got an agency in after 5 months.

isitweds9thseptyet · 26/09/2021 20:13

The justification comes in how much free time it would ease up and stress decrease and quality of life improvement. Id get a 1 bed flat cleaned if it gave me those things.

Yours and DH weekend time has a value associated with it £. What its worth to you. As long as the cleaner costs less then enjoy a stress free weekend with more family time.

We live in a 2 bed, 2 bathrooms duplex flat and my cleaner comes weekly. Currently pregnant with a DC who is 3! Having a cleaner/housekeeper is the best decison I have made this year. She folds away laundry, changes bedding, waters my plants and cleans the house from top to bottom. Being heavily pregnant means I can't clean the house the way I used. It's just me and DS, so some would argue I should be able to manage, but I can't and love my house being clean. It costs a fair bit but means I can spend my weekends doing other things aside from trying my best to clean.

whatswithtodaytoday · 26/09/2021 20:16

We had one pre-Covid, in a small three bed both working with a toddler. We're now both wfh and don't feel we can justify it as technically we're here and should be able to keep up, but I'm starting a campaign to get her back as I just don't have time to do the big jobs. I don't want to clean the bathroom on my lunch break!

BlueRaincoat1 · 26/09/2021 20:21

Thanks so much for your answers. At the moment a lot of it simply doesn't get done often enough. We do prioritise spending time together on the weekend etc, but it means that things like a washed floor/ cleaned shower etc just doesn't get done often enough. So the pay off would literally be a cleaner house and less guilt about a grubby house. Which would be lovely!

2 bed mid terraced. We have a cleaner for 3 hours a week. She's amazing. My husband and I work full time so don't get much time to clean. We don't do much ourselves other than wipe down.

murasaki · 26/09/2021 23:14

Two bed terrace here too, 3 hours per week for 40, she is a goddess . It means we can enjoy weekends, and she us much better than either of us. Working from home has meant we've had to adjust a bit re working patterns, but we've got closer, and I think are friends now, we always chat a lot and I signed her kids passport form, couldn't be without her

Three storey house, two bathrooms plus two loos, three receps, three bedrooms, kitchen. Just me and DP here, we are very clean and tidy but lugging the hoover around is too much for us now. Cleaner here weekly for two hours.
