How much do you clean an air b&b?

I'm going on holiday in the UK next week and staying in an air b&b holiday cottage for the first time. I'm wondering how clean I should leave it?

Check in isn't until 4pm apparently so they have time to clean it, but check out is at 9 am...so they have a 7 hour window to clean it between guests? Is it ok to just do the washing up and wipe the kitchen surfaces? Will I need to clean the bathroom, strip the beds, hoover?

Ask the host. Maybe in the book too

Usually hover through if we’ve been more than a few nights. Straighten cushions. Wash up . Strip beds / put towels ready to wash etc. Quick wipe of kitchen and bathroom.

Most of all though do the bins ! The cleaning may well not happen same day if no one is arriving so that’s important.

Others wouldn’t do any of this but I think it’s just polite and having a good “ rating “ as a renter is good.

I stayed in one recently (room only), made my bed and put the dirty crockery I'd used on the side (shared bathroom, no individual sink so I couldn't do the washing up).
They're going to want to clean it properly up to their standard, so be considerate, rubbish in the bin, bed made, towels hanging up or in a nice pile. But don't actually clean.

NB. we have a dog. I particularly make sure all dog evidence is cleared away. No muddy paw prints 😂. I may be wrong but that really helps when I ask about bringing him if it doesn’t say pet friendly.

Wipe counters
Make sure loo is clean
No toothpaste on basin
Floor swept
Cushions straightened
Don't strip the bed

We empty bins and so our dishes m. Nothing else.

StarryStarrySocks · 26/09/2021 17:03

I'd wash the dishes, sweep up any crumbs and leave used towels in a pile. Just generally leave the place tidy but not do any actual cleaning. Wouldn't strip beds unless specifically asked.

I do the washing up and do a genera tidy in the sense that I put things back roughly where they came from. I might Hoover if one of my DSs has crumbed everything. Strip beds only if asked to in the manual.

beggsie · 26/09/2021 17:07

As a host, I would agree that doing the bins is useful. As is putting everything back where it came from (eg glasses put near the sink/dishwasher or if you've moved furniture, put it back). I prefer beds not stripped - I like to see any make up/fake tan that I might need to deal with. HTH.

Depends on if your price includes a cleaning fee

sylbunny · 26/09/2021 17:08

Oh I do empty bins actually but I have one in nappies and don't think it's nice to leave that.

PinkPlantCase · 26/09/2021 17:12

We leave it tidy and not obviously dirty but we don’t clean because there’s normally a cleaning fee added to the cost of the stay

Take bins out and make sure everything’s away. Since covid they normally ask for beds to be stripped.

Jellycatspyjamas · 26/09/2021 17:33

I put everything back where it belongs (plates, glasses, cushions etc), wipe down the kitchen and fridge, leave the bed turned down and wipe the bathroom down. If there’s obvious crumbs or mud on the floor I’ll sweep/hoover. That’s about it and takes maybe half an hour
