Jammed my hand in the door frame, i was closing door behind me and didnt move my hand out of way. Back of hand feels painful and slightly swollen and starting to bruise. Cant touch area as its very painful and a weird tingling sensation though can move my fingers and curl my hand into ball but cant straighten hand out properly. When lean weight on hand its painful. Never broken a bone or injured my hand in this way, any ideas as last thing i need is to be off work or spend a few hours in ane.

The only way you can exclude a Fracture is to be examined and referred for an XRay. If you've a minor injury unit near you just go tomorrow. Ice, elevate and painkillers if you need them in the interim.

Is it tingling in weird ways now?

Sunday noon is a nicer time to go to A&E than 11pm Saturday.

Painkillers and anti inflammatory see if it helps and keep an eye on it any doubt get it checked out.

it doesn't sound broken but no one can really tell you over the internet. Just go and get it checked out tomorrow if need be. No reason you should miss any work with a broken hand

Betsybanshee · 25/09/2021 23:28

Think you will need an X-Ray ti be sure

That sensation you get before you get pins and needles, sometimes it feels like its burning pain too

My job requires hand hygiene all the time.

Ouch! I second what Forest said - that only getting it checked out will rule a break out. These symptoms might help you tell if it’s likely but a lot could also apply to a soft tissue injury too.

Severe pain that might worsen when gripping or squeezing or moving your hand.
Swelling.
Tenderness.
Bruising.
Obvious deformity, such as a crooked finger.
Stiffness or inability to move your fingers or thumb.
Numbness in your hand or fingers.

Not a great advisor as everyone told me to a&e but i had an injury, tingling fingers 8 hours later then again days later for about 20 hours and i didn't go. Two and a half weeks later it's very slightly sore but ive got full movement back and it's fine . Ive broken bones in my hand before and nothing was actually done beyond confirming the break and advice to rest it so I couldn't be bothered going to the hospital...

Downsize2021 · 25/09/2021 23:33

But if you were my friend asking for advice ke6day get it checked .

BiteyCatII · 25/09/2021 23:33

No reason you should miss any work with a broken hand. Umm surely that would depend on what work is involved?

Downsize2021 · 25/09/2021 23:34

Er no idea what happened there.

If you were my friend I'd say get it checked.

LizzieSiddal · 25/09/2021 23:44

I had tingling on my foot when I went over on my ankle, it wasn’t broken just a torn ligament. I too wouldn’t want to go to A&E on a Saturday night, so take Ibropopen and Paracetamol, and go tomorrow.
Obviously though if the pain gets very bad or hand is very swollen, I would go over night.

Sycamoretrees · 25/09/2021 23:48

I think you need to get it looked at, tenderness over a bone and "feeling funny" is an indication an X-Ray is required.

yes, obviously, but most jobs can be done. I read the OP has saying they are able to work, but if it was broken, they would not be able to work, indicating that the injury itself wasn't stopping them as it stands, but that a diagnosis might stop them working. I can't think of many jobs like that!
lljkk · 26/09/2021 11:51

Did you go to A&E? Pain is one thing and normal enough, but The tingling isn't good sign.

If you have a job that requires using hand a lot, that will be challenging to get better & still do job. Best to know what it is to know what is reasonable to do with the hand.
