Periods have gone very very light - normal?

I used to have excessively heavy and painful periods that lasted 4 or 5 days, they’re now very light (ie nothing more than spotting - don’t even need a pad), and last about 2/3 weeks at a time . No pain, thankfully .

Is that normal? No chance I’m pregnant, normal smear, no other symptoms, though I do have a diagnosis of PCOS but have always had very heavy periods (ie was given incontinence sheets at one stage as would flood the mattress each night . I’m only 30 so hoping it’s nothing more concerning ie early menopause or something !

Is this after the Covid jab at all? It’s definitely changed my cycle (no periods at all on the implant but now they’re back and regular as clockwork ) and I know there’s been lots on here and reported to the yellow card scheme that women have experienced changes after the jab.

I think I’d see the GP about that, given your age. It sounds like some kind of hormone imbalance and if you are certain you can’t be pregnant then I’d want to have it checked out. It could be the PCOS but it would put your mind at ease.
Are you on any kind of contraception?

CurlyWurly321 · 26/09/2021 08:46

I always thought flooding there mattress each night was a normal thing that everyone endured until MN told me otherwise.

OP have you got kids?

Have you lost any weight at all? If that drops too low periods can stop

tiredanddangerous · 26/09/2021 08:49

My periods chop and change like this due to pcos. I'll have months of really heavy periods followed by months of very light ones. I seem to be having a combination of both at the moment - a week of spotting and 2 days of heavy bleeding every month.

Speak to your GP though op.

I could have written this word-for-word.

Around 2.5 years ago my periods went from very heavy for 5-7 days a month, to light spotting for 8-9 days. Cycles regular.

I also have PCOS. But I've never had this weird change before.

GP suggested early menopause (I was 35), but then covid meant I've not had that investigated. They did rule out a load of other stuff pre-covid.

I'm thinking about trying the gp again soon.

I was going to say the same about the covid jab. My period tine is half what it used to be.

josephfrancistribbiani · 26/09/2021 10:44

It did go funny after the COVID jab yes - which was back in April - I hadn’t bled for 100 days at that point and within 12 hours of covid jab I was flooding - since then they’ve all but stopped apart from very light spotting, they’re nothing like what they used to be .

When I go to the bathroom there’s usually a bit of bleeding on loo paper - but nothing else at all, it’s very odd, and no pain at all either - I still get full PMT symptoms with spots, bloating etc though . I’ll ring GP tomorrow . No children and no weight loss sadly .

In terms of other symptoms, I’m very dry down below but that’s relatively normal for me unfortunately- apart from that just usual PCOS hairy, spots and overweight! No hot flashes or anything .

It actually says in the OP that she's 30......

OP, it might be worth seeing GP about this, but take a pregnancy test beforehand to rule it out. GP will almost certainly ask if you could possibly be pregnant.
