Chopped tip of finger off - bleeding not stopping

Hi, any suggestions about the following?

DH cut the tip of his finger off on Thursday night. It's still bleeding on Saturday morning (no scab formed at all) when he took the plaster and bandage off. (Not pumping, but red blood dripping)

How long do these things take to start to heal?

Thanks!

Wouldn't something like that require stitches?

ThisIsNotAMill · 25/09/2021 10:33

Errrr...a lot quicker than that.

If its still an open wound 36 hours later, it's not healing and needs looking at.

Minor injuries can assess it.

Send him to the local minor injuries unit.

Yes, he needs to go off to a minor injuries unit.

Hospital/ stitches?

Hoppinggreen · 25/09/2021 10:36

If you have a minor injuries (we don’t) he should go there but if not then it will have to be A&E

I had a similar issue, it was pouring though so I went the night I did it. I had to go to minor injuries, they put some magic thingy on it as they couldn't stop it either, sent me home with instructions to come back the next day. I came back and they stuck my finger back together as it had stopped bleeding by then. All fine now!

I was lucky to have the detached piece still hanging Envyso they glued it.

Definitely minor injuries.

sorry for not coming back sooner. thanks all for your advice. It did actually stop on its own later on the day that i posted.

amazing what a relatively small cut can produce though!
