Child’s teeth question

Hi awaiting a dental check up so it will be looked at anyway but while I wait for it please reassure me. My six year old hasn’t lost any baby teeth yet is it normal that the bottom ones are starting to go a bit crooked and some are looking higher than the others ? They aren’t wobbly but I can see the adult tooth in the gum under a couple of them. Thanks

DS only lost his as a 6-approaching-7 year old. If his baby teeth are moving it sounds like he has a few adult coming through at once - I would make sure he gets seen as maybe they’ll want to manually remove a baby tooth. But DS went from being the only kid in class who’d not lost any to having 3 go very wobbly (it seemed) overnight, so it might surprise you.

Thank you , he’s definitely going to be seen he’s due a check up anyway . He had quite severe Bruxism, already checked by the dentist previously and will be checked again so I worry about his teeth anyway

It can be quite common to get a 2nd row of adult teeth coming in behind baby teeth especially on the bottom jaw (shark teeth). The don't normally need removing and the baby teeth will come out as the adult teeth come through further

I think it's unlikely that they would consider removing teeth at this stage

evtheria · 25/09/2021 09:48

Yes - I’m not speaking from my DS’s experience obv, just know SIL had to get one removed when she was a child due to same situation.

Dd got a baby tooth removed about age 14 as it hadn't come out. They won't be removing teeth at age 6

OP, sorry to hijack but my DS is an awful grinder too! Our dentist said it’s totally fine, only link he knows of (and a tenuous one at that) is lack of sleep, which we don’t worry about for DS. What has yours said/done to address it?

My dd was the last one to lose any teeth, was upset as even cousins several years younger had lost some before her. Finally lost her first one age 7 and 3 months. It 7y6m now and hasn't lost any more. Dentist isn't worried, no cavities, only drinks water, brushes twice a day. They were late coming in when she was a baby so might be linked, no idea.
My sister had teeth removed age 14 so a long while to go yet before needing to consider that.
Much like anything they all do things in their own time.

The adult teeth with push the baby ones out essentially. I didn't loose any baby teeth till I was about 8. Just be mindful that at 6 she's due her first molar adult teeth so if you see 4 new teeth sprouting they're her adult ones so really look after them. Most adults we see have fillings in their first molar (number 6) as parents think its a baby tooth.

As long as they aren’t hurting him it’s just being left too young for a mouth guard his top teeth are tiny too because of it

Thanks for all the help and advice
