Constant sickness since daughter started nursery

Hello!
Just wanting some advice 😊
Since my 3 yr old started nursery 3 weeks ago she has been constantly sick.
Firstly a week ago it was a bad cold ( cough and runny nose) and we thought we’d got over that.
Then yesterday she goes to nursery and all last night was up with a painful ear and crying.
Thank God for Calpol as it’s the only thing that seems to be helping her.
Is this to be expected when your little one starts nursery?
We have lived abroad since our daughter was born and she was never sick. Now we’ve moved back to the U.K. and it seems to be constant 😭
Just want reassurance that this is the norm! I hate seeing her so upset as it’s just not like her.

When my oldest first started nursery she seemed to get every bug going for a little while. Not all of them made her feel really bad but she had to have lots of time off. It settled down after the first term I think so I wouldn't worry too much.

IME this is perfectly normal. Little children are incubators for germs and lots of little children together means lots of germs. As her immune system gets stronger she will be able to fight off bugs easier.

Normal. I have found this the hardest thing about parenting - the pregnancy and newborn days pale into significance compared with the harrowing year of A&E dashes, sleepless nights & chats with my manager that we have just had.

Touch wood, she seems to be handling them better now, but frankly it’s been awful.

She seems to be handling them better now - being cranky for a day or two rather than a week of 39 degree temperatures and broken sleep.

It could be coincidence but I started using baby hand gel from Boots (begins with N I think, white and green bottle) and she hasn’t picked up too much since (it says it works for 6 hours but who knows). Fingers crossed for us!

Yes it's normal, my dc had a perma cold for a year after starting nursery. Mentioned it to the GP who said it means they'll have an iron clad immune system by the time they reach school compared to those children who didn't attend nursery.

Thank you everyone 😊 That is reassuring.
I guess by the time she starts primary school her immunity will be built up.
It’s just hard seeing them so sick and you can’t do anything to take the pain away.

Yes it's a nightmare. Currently going through it with second DC. Every week a new cold. However, my older DC is now bomb proof - never gets ill. To illustrate, she currently has covid (tested as a contact) and is completely asymptomatic.

I've probably jinxed it now....

My top tip is to give your child the chicken pox vaccine. £140 at Boots. Much cheaper than two weeks unpaid off work.

I'm at my wits end too.... its been like this here every single week since september... at the weekend manage to get him well enough to go back to nursery (only goes for 2 afternoons) , and he comes back and again ill.... Confused
Are u any better by now or still the same?
