Feedback for A&E nurse

My Mam got seen at A&E today. The nurse was amazing. Mum thinks she remembers her name (first name only).

How do I go about thanking her? Mam might not remember her name correctly. And I can’t just write to “Jane” at A&E in case there are lots of Janes (not the actual name). Can I write to someone with my Mam’s name and they can check her record and see who helped her and pass it on?

They'll be able to see who was on shift if you put the date and time, you could email the manager of A&E and mention Jane. It's always lovely to get letters of appreciation from patients, makes a sometimes thankless job worthwhile.

Write to the hospital PALS department, for the attention of the A&E matron who will work out who you mean :)

HippyDays · 23/09/2021 21:07

Thank you. So if I just write A&E Manager / Matron is that ok or do I need to find out that manager’s name? I can’t see anything on the hospital website.

I sent an email to PALs after my dad had a spell in hospital and they told me about an awards system they had. I nominated his ward and found out (albeit it months later) that they had won on the back of my nomination.

Might be worth googling the hospital and seeing if they have similar? Sadly my dad died after his spell there but thanks to their care and attention he was able to return home and be with my mum when the inevitable happened.

Receiving that email not so long ago was bloody lovely!

HippyDays · 23/09/2021 21:56

Bingowings, thanks I will definitely look at that. I’m sorry you lost your Dad but that does sound a comfort.

You can also send it to the Trust as a private message on Facebook and they will pass it on

email the communications team or use Facebook messenger and they will share as appropriate. I am in a hospital comms team and I do this all the time for patients and relatives.

Thank you m0therofdragons. If it happens all the time, is it worth it? I’m worried it will seem silly! But I’m so grateful.

It’s definitely worth it. As a nurse, I always appreciate feedback (good and not so good!).
The nurse will be able to use it in her revalidation.
Just address it to the ward matron.

Hope your mums okay!

Not at all silly. Definitely do it. My ward recently received a letter to the hospital from a relative mentioning a few first names/other identifiers of people they felt had provided excellent care. They made sure to find everyone and it really made such a difference to people. So definitely do it. It will mean a lot to her, I promise.

Thanks everyone. And to those of you in hospitals or care etc, thank you (especially if you helped an older slightly scared lady today, even if you are not called Jane Smile) Flowers

Agree with emailing the manager/matron

And thank you! I am an A&E consultant and still have a thank-you card from a patient that I received as an SHO. These things mean a lot to HCWs

m0therofdragons · 26/09/2021 20:09

@HippyDays definitely! It makes my day reading them and sharing with the teams and execs. We love feedback - good and bad. Good we can celebrate and bad we can learn from.
