Mammography results

I've just received an appointment at the hospital following a regular screening mammography for further examination. Has anyone had this? What does it mean. Is it like when a smear comes back as irregular so you have further tests but most of the time it's just a glitch and everything is fine? Or should I be worried? I'm trying not to panic but I had the mammogram on Monday and got the letter today. The speed is pretty scary in itself.

Just seen the date of the appointment is next week and thanks to covid I have to go on my own.

I had a mammogram last week and got my results today, all normal, so it is normal to be that fast.
I have also had the we need more examination letter and it is scary but the most likely reason is that the original screen shows something they can't explain so they'll take another, possibly do a quick scan.
The most common outcome, as was for me, is that the breast in the original screen the breast had not been placed well (glitch) and everything was fine.
I do completely understand your concerns, they will excplain it all to you when you have your next appointment.

This is what it says on the NHS website:

“Your results may say further tests are needed. You will be given an appointment.

These tests can include:

an examination of your breast
more mammograms
ultrasound scans of your breast
taking a small sample (biopsy) from your breast using a needle
You will usually get your results within 1 week.

You may feel anxious about having further tests and what this means. Your letter will tell you how to contact a breast care nurse if you have any questions or would like to discuss the process.

Most people who need further tests will not be diagnosed with breast cancer.

But if there are signs of breast cancer, finding it early means treatment is more likely to be successful and it's less likely you'll need to have a breast removed (mastectomy).”

I know it’s difficult but try not to worry too much! Chances are it will be nothing to worry about at all Brew

I had mine last week (still waiting for results)- the first thing they said is "do not panic if we recall you, it doesn't mean the worst and is especially common on first mammogram as we use that as a baseline for all future ones".

I really hope everything is OK. Flowers

I have had breast cancer and my mammogram instantly showed an area of concern so was ushered in for an ultrasound where I had a biopsy all on the same day. Then I found out the results 3 days later.
The drs know what they're looking at when they see something concerning and usually act very promptly. This was my experience anyway.
Good luck.

Thank you all. That's what I'm hoping, that I moved or something during the test or something. Supposed to be packing for a weekend away not freaking out over something most likely to be nothing.

Try not to worry!

I got the all clear!

They found three small 'lumps' which were just fluid and have now been removed. Going home now to sleep.
