3ft x 9ft bathroom

We've got a jack and jill bathroom at the moment which I really don't like. Can't see how to make it into a family bathroom without fairly extensive renovations involving the bathroom and a bedroom but it wouldn't be so hard to stick a divinding wall down the middle of the room. Only problem is that the current bathroom is 6ft x 9ft so the split rooms would be max 3ft wide each and that's not taking into account the width of the dividing wall. It wouldn't be so easy to split the other way due to existing door and window placement which I'd prefer not to change.

Looking online I see 3ft x 9ft is possible for a bathroom but practically would it be much too small? Anyone have a bathroom this size? The rooms are currently kids room and spare room. Eventually they'll be both kids rooms so I feel like a smaller space though not ideal isn't as bad as if it was a shared bathroom (either family or ensuite shared by a couple).

The picture is what it currently looks like. I'd change the doors to open outwards and split down the middle dividing the window in two.

You wouldn't be able to have a bath. Luckily your doors are in the middle so you could have a shower at one end and a loo and small sink at the other.

First step is to make a drawing to scale and see what might fit

Would there be room for a shower as well as a basin / WC in each 'new' room ?

Good small space bathrooms fir ideas. You can get hand basins that fit above the loo's cistern and all sorts.

Our downstairs loo is v small, it was quite a challenge to fit everything in. I was warned by a friend who didn't check / allow for the depth of tiles, requiring a lot of last minute changes to the design.

Oh good point, I didn't even think about how the tiles will reduce the size even more. I've looked at measurements online and I can physically fit everything in so each new bathroom would have shower at one end, loo at the other and sink along the long wall in the middle. I just worry that it would feel very cramped. I haven't found any sinks small enough to fit along the small wall adjacent to the loo but I might have just not looked in the right place.

Definitely no space for a bath but when the kids are small they will use the bath in our room and once they're bigger I expect they'll prefer showers.

Assuming your hall is opposite the window, why can't you make it into a bog standard family bathroom - it would only need the bath turning 90 degrees? Be cheaper than splitting the room in two.

If you're desperate for two en-suites though, shower at one end, loo at other and sink opposite door would be fine. Google 'small en-suite' for pictures to get an idea.

Why don't you like it as a jack and Jill?

The basin in our downstairs WC is one of the smallest in the market.

The narrow cabinets were supplied by paramountbathrooms.co.uk/bathroom-furniture/ who were so helpful. When my first choice of basin was in the way of the door's opening circle, and DH was in despair, they came up with an alternative, which works very well. Hope you can see the pictures..

@titchy it would not be easy to make it into a family bathroom and would require extensive renovations. If it was just putting a door in then that would definitely be my preferred option.

@FinallyHere thanks for sharing, that basin is extremely narrow. I'll have a look for something similar. Was it not an option for the door to open the other way?

@Yellowbowlbanana I just find it a bit of an odd set up. I'm sure for my kids it will seem normal but personally I just don't like the idea of having a bathroom connected to my bedroom that isn't my own ensuite.

the door to open the other way?

The WC opens into a small, square hallway, with front door to left and internal door to the rest of the house to the right. The two other doors open into the hallway so we felt that having a third door open into the hallway wad a recipe for chaos.

We also considered a folding or sliding door.

The small basic sorted it all for us.

our small bathroom is 90cm x 180cm
it contains a toilet, space saving sink, shower.
door opens outwards.
