Crohns and kids

My DB's DS has just been diagnosed with crohns after a long battle with specialists to find out what it was. He had constant diarea and stomach pain, barely ate, lost weight, no energy and was v pale. Thought it was just gluten intolerance at first so wasted tons of time. Has anyone experience of kids and crohns? What's the prognosis? Specialist being vague. How much does it affect their lives? Social life etc. All seems like so much to take in!

There is a huge variation in the experience of Crohns. I strongly suggest you don’t google personal stories because online tends to be full of the worst case situations. I know this is for an adult but my DH was diagnosed at 29, after a course of steroids he was put on a medication he couldn’t tolerate and then changed to another one. It’s 8 years later now and we are currently waiting for tests results which his consultant suspects will confirm he is in remission. Then he will be removed from his meds.

DD had Crohns as a teen/early 20s and has been in remission now for over 10 years. Now has DC of her own. The condition varies so much between individuals that it is impossible to generalise.

Recent diagnosis here as well. It's overwhelming and currently finding it hard to get my head around it

My son was diagnosed with crohns at the age of nine, which was seventeen years ago. We as a family were very well supported by a multi disciplinary team at the hospital, who suggested that we contact charities who have been invaluable www.crohnsandcolitis.org.uk and www.circra.org.uk. These websites have lots of information and resources.
There is a lot of research, and what we have noticed over the years is how treatment has improved.
