Due to luggage size/weight!

Two 4-year olds (boy and girl) and a 6-year old boy. T-shirts seem a wee bit...lameo (maybe)?

Double decker toys like they have at the airport Hamleys? Sweets that aren’t international?

PermanentTemporary · 22/09/2021 11:24

Harry Potter sweets?

KittenKong · 22/09/2021 11:30

Not sure if they’d like (superior) British sweets!

Early Learning Centre (now sold via The Entertainer toy shops) do Happyland figures of the Queen, typical 'bobby' style Policeman etc. Playmobil have some too I think.
Toy cars of black cab, red bus etc (London - centric I know).
The 6 year old might like a 'traditional' British book. Maybe the first Secret Seven book or Paddington or something.

givemushypeasachance · 22/09/2021 12:03

Is it in a "I visited the UK and brought these touristy/holiday things back for you!" way or a "I live in the UK and brought these things associated with where I'm from" kind of way, since that gives a bit of a different vibe to me. The I picked this up at the airport vibe versus something bought from where you live.

chesirecat99 · 22/09/2021 12:04

All a bit London centric, I'm afraid:

A Paddington book to share and Paddington teddies or other Paddington gifts.

The Royal Rabbits of London

This is London is a mid century design classic

The Queen's Hat

A London taxi, bus or tube train

You can get little wooden playsets with London landmarks and buses etc I've seen them at the London Transport Museum, Muji, John Lewis, JoJo Maman Bebe.

A Horseguard teddy bear

Museum shop websites are a good place to look for inspiration, here's a few of my "go to"s:

I live in the UK and have a relative dropping by on her way back to the states - and I wanted to send over some bits for her grandkids (not that I ever get a thank you from ANY of her lot) because I have (some) manners...

OP posts:
givemushypeasachance · 22/09/2021 12:06

The British Museum Shop has some nice ideas anyway, things like "London snap" game or skittles, UK map jigsaws and so on.

KittenKong · 22/09/2021 12:06

Good thinking Batman (I work next to the BM). Maybe a book on manners...

OP posts:
chesirecat99 · 22/09/2021 12:08

Well, if they aren't very grateful, Primark always have London souvenir t-shirts and gifts, at least they do in the London stores...

nettytree · 22/09/2021 12:09

Kids comics. Never seen them in the states.

WaterAndRichTea · 22/09/2021 12:11

Why are you bothering then?

Non grateful kids in partners family are getting nothing this Christmas from him

Had enough of the pure rudeness

Dont get anything OP

KittenKong · 22/09/2021 12:11

I think they have Primark over there now (I know they have one in Boston).

I suppose it’s not the kids fault that they have no manners... although the adults have no excuse... (annoying to hear how much they loved all the Christmas presents second hand! Grrrrr - and it cost a bloody fortune as I spend a fortune because I thought it might be the last one and the postage!)

OP posts:
sashh · 22/09/2021 12:13

If there ungrateful kids send them a UK Monopoly and enjoy knowing there will be arguments.

T shirts, sticker books, postcards, Soccer shirts / hats.

Egg cups - just to confuse them.

KittenKong · 22/09/2021 12:13

Why am I bothering? Good question! Well my sister is terminally ill - so I suppose I just want it all to be perfect for when she is here... 😞

chesirecat99 · 22/09/2021 12:23

Primark probably don't sell the London souvenir stuff in Boston though. They sometimes have some nice Cath Kidston style London t-shirts for kids.

If you are by the BM, I would head to the London Transport Museum shop in Covent Garden.

The Muji London "city in a bag" wooden playsets are cheap, light and cute too, and there is a store on TCR. They do a London transport one too or, at least, they used too. I haven't been in one since lockdown.

WeatherwaxLives · 22/09/2021 12:29

Chocolate. Like smarties and stuff like that. And sweets.

An American friends kid did an 'unboxing' video when she got some uk sweets. It was hilarious. 'these are called smarties - I don't know what they are...' Oh! They're kind of like m&ms... But they're nice!'

I've since learnt that US chocolate is made in some bonkers way that means it tastes slightly of vomit. No wonder she liked smarties!!

WeatherwaxLives · 22/09/2021 12:39

Oh, NOT kinder eggs, they're illegal to import into the US. There's a big fine!

Ormally · 22/09/2021 14:28

Bike bells
Tricky to find 3 maybe, but a decorated 50p like Beatrix Potter ones.

KittenKong · 22/09/2021 14:41

Bike bells! Really loud bike bells! I like it...

OP posts:
Ormally · 22/09/2021 14:46

Definitely loud ones. Or can you find a harmonica at this late stage?

sashh · 23/09/2021 06:30

Oh I once got my brothers children a sort of mat with piano keys, not as fancy as the one in 'Big' but it also had some really irritating pre programmed tunes.

Recorders?

Cath Kidston London print gifts are lovely and lightweight. A pencil case or purse type gift will also be super lightweight

AiryFairy1 · 23/09/2021 06:37

A bag of whistles will drive the parents batty! About a pound from post office type shops Grin
