Excellent choice OP, I was going to suggest cheese and Worcestershire sauce. I do think the addition of butter is overly decadent though.

Butter and a slice of cheddar with some roasted and salted cashew nuts on the side.

Just to add into the mix for another time: Pistachio creme. Available in jars from Italian delis and amazon and probably elsewhere. It’s amazing and particularly good on granary toast, crumpets, and thickly swirled through Greek yoghurt.

Good choice. I'm currently working my way through the dregs of the freezer and yesterday I found some M&S crumpets that were reduced and I'm having mine with a thin omelette, because it's easier and quicker than scrambled egg and crumpets by themselves make me starving not long after for some reason.

Rhubarb and ginger jam, the tang complements the buttered crumpet perfectly. And has a lovely autumn flavour which goes with the psychological pleasure of hot crumpets on a misty morning.

Actually if you're after a more sweet idea (yet healthier than drowned in butter ) there was a lovely hairy bikers recipe, that had warm spiced berries and yoghurt on top.

As an aside, I came across a recipe for crumpets when I was looking for ratatouille in a book today: they look really easy.

Ugh I’ve read this after eating my crappy, can’t be bothered cooking, dinner of breadsticks and hummus and really wishing I’d had crumpets instead.
Toppings of choice at the moment are chilli jam topped with strong cheddar and then grilled or chilli jam, smashed avocado and a poached egg. That’s my breakfast sorted
