Should I continue sending DC to school?

Hi
Got a text today from my child's school, saying that they've had an 'outbreak' of COVID & advise we all do a PCR test etc. Like most schools in UK at mo! Obviously it says we can continue to attend as normal but there's online learning available etc. All fine.

However I, along with all other parents in just our class, then had another text saying that our child/ren has/have likely been in contact with at least 1 positive case but could be several. This has obviously caused a bit of confusion but all parents I've spoken to are still sending their kids in as usual.

Problem for me, is that I'm a lone parent with no father in the picture and I'm CEV.
Despite having had both vax, I've got no childcare at all for any time I may end up spending battling COVID which due to being CEV, would be longer than most, even if it is less serious.

Should I still send my child in so you think? They've already missed so much and still getting settled into Year 2. Gutted

Oh you poor thing. I don't think it's an easy decision. What I do know though is that DS has been asked to PCR as a close school contact twice in the first two weeks of school and I'm sure more are coming. I doubt this will be limited to a one off for your daughter sadly so you might need to consider that. I'm sorry I can't be more help, in the meantime keep windows open where you can.

Do the pcr and go from there there.

That's true! I hadn't thought of that. Damn. Thank you.

Fingers crossed!

Thanks. Have ordered one (no walk/drive in centres near me anymore, they've all closed!)

I have a feeling we're going to need many PCR tests over the coming weeks, like many others across the UK Gin

Hopefully when enough children are vaccinated this will cut back.
Then ECV children can attend school too.

7 children out of 32 attended today (mine being one) 😳

My kids are in a similar position (apart from I'm not CEV). My son sat next to a child last week who tested positive - touch wood both the PCR he did on Friday and the one he also had to do today - because it's so bad at the school they have the mobile vans there to retest everyone - are negative. My daughter did a PCR on Thursday and LFT on Sunday and today - all negative - she will have her next PCR at school tomorrow or the day after.

Not quite the same situation but I’m due any day now and so I’ve taken my DC out of school this week to minimise contact with other sick kids.

Since school opened DC had to be sent home on one occasion for vomiting and then the following week caught a nasty cold.

Also we received two letters from the school in two weeks about a positive covid case in the school but unless we were contacted by track and trace/showed symptoms we weren’t to worry.

I’m worried about bringing a new baby into a house filled with germs. Only problem is I don’t know when this baby is actually coming and I don’t want to keep DC off for more than is necessary. I’ll review things end of this week.

Sorry I've only just seen this! How are things? Is congratulations in order yet?!?

If still relevant, personally I'd keep them off anyway. Our school said "We'll just put her down as 'learning off site' and you can download the work from the school website. In fact, in the end, they seemed pleased!
