Androgenic Alopecia

Anyone else suffer from this? It's hormone/menopause related and it's just been officially diagnosed. I'm 52, peri-menopausal and can't take HRT because when I tried it a couple of years ago it made my hair fall out!

A dermatologist confirmed that it was androgenic alopecia. Hoping to get an appointment with a gynaecologist who knows about menopause related issues in a few months - maybe she can tell me if there's another form of HRT that won't make the problem worse!

If you have this, has it worsened a lot since beginning? Or remained static? Is there an end to the hair loss, as in, does it eventually settle? I'm so worried about how it will progress.

Following. I’m just starting with this. Mid40s, some peri-menopause symptoms. My grandad, Dad and brother were/are bald. Hairline is receding.
I’m going to look at herbal help from a proper herbalist.

So sorry to hear that you're also experiencing this, @KloppsTeeth - it's not fun. My mum lost most of her hair, in her later years, and the dermatologist said there is often a genetic component. What was/is your mums hair like?

Has HRT been recommended to you? I really researched it a couple years ago and so many women were saying how it helped their hair - so there I was hoping for the thick, lustrous hair of my youth. It was falling out within two weeks Shock...

If you find anything from a herbalist that is helpful, please post! I'm also beginning the search for help in stemming the shedding.

I've just given in after 10 years of fighting it with vitamins, diet and various hair care products to no great effect and bought my first topper. There are lots of great sellers and wearers on YouTube, Insta and TikTok with advice on how to shop for something that will work for you, and knowing how many people use them and how real they can look has spurred me on. For the cost of one cut and colour in my usual salon I have ordered something pretty decent, and if it's not for me I'll try something else.

@36degrees - I looked at wigs and toppers some time ago, then my hair seemed to settle and I hoped they wouldn't be necessary. But will probably resume my research now, just in case. Sorry to hear that everything you tried made no difference. It's a horrid condition to have, isn't it? Really affects your confidence.
