What is this rash? Pic included

I’ve had this rash/sore patch on the back of my neck a few days and assumed it was an allergic reaction to something - necklace etc. I’m always getting things like this.

Usually I put hydrocortisone on a eczema rash and it immediately eases and then disappears over a day or so but this is not improving after about 4 days and is really sore, like burning sore. Seems to have gone a bit scaly too.

It’s right in a bit where there’s a crease/skin fold so i know you can get intertrigo type things there, but this feels and looks different to me.

Help?

Looks a bit like Shingles OP. Have you been feeling a bit under the weather lately?

ZealAndArdour · 21/09/2021 05:32

It just looks like abraded skin that’s scabbed over and sloughing off.

I’d just use a really plain gentle moisturiser on it tbh and leave it be.

I'd think that but for OP saying it's burning sore....that wouldn't be usual with a bit of damaged skin that's already a bit scabby.

Stop wearing necklaces for a while as it could be a nickel allergy—I get this with some jewellery. Has it come on since having a covid vaccine as rashes are one of the side effects?

PuppyMonkey · 21/09/2021 07:15

Thanks all- update is that fingers crossed it feels a bit better today. I put hydrocortisone on again last night and it really felt like it eased it. Yes I have a nickel allergy and only wear a necklace once in a blue moon, thought i could get away with it on a special occasion last week - doh! Have had shingles before and I don’t think it’s that.

I agree that it looks like shingles. Good luck.

Gilead · 21/09/2021 08:06

God, that sounded awful, sorry. I meant, hope it isn’t sort of good luck! I have shingles regularly and it’s grim. 💐

PuppyMonkey · 21/09/2021 08:24

Crikey I’m pretty sure it isn’t shingles as I had that before, but now you’ve got me wondering.Confused

Shingles would have started off as tiny small fluid filled blisters to have ultimately reached this point where you have the tiny scabbed areas, so if you haven’t had any of those then it’s probably not shingles.

Agree with the nickel theory. Google “nickel allergic contact dermatitis” there’s some pictures of similar rashes.

PuppyMonkey · 21/09/2021 18:22

Thanks @ZealAndArdour I nipped to a pharmacy and she said it didn’t look like shingles, just hard, dry skin.

I think the hydrocortisone is helping now, it’s not as itchy and burning. I do have a nickel allergy, in fact I’m allergic to everything and am beginning to suspect the strap I’ve been wearing with my glasses for a few weeks. It’s just a piece of string but I’m bound to be allergic to something in its make up.Confused
