Help please. Calpol overdose

My daughter is 15 and I accidentally gave her (just) over twice the dosage of Calpol for her age (used a baking measure tablespoon instead of teaspoon like an idiot and after she had it she said um isn't that the wrong spoon). I'm waiting for clinician callback from 111 now. I feel like such a moron. Has this happened to anyone and what happens now please. She seems fine and didn't have any of the symptoms from the list they (111) asked me.

We have loads of teenagers who can't take tablets. Though when they try the Pen V or flucoloxacillin liquid they quickly learn!

Nurse here. She'll be fine. Stop worrying.

So she’s had just over 1.5g of paracetamol? She could have up to 4g in 24 hours. Not an issue.

If she has had one dose and dose not have any more for a day or so it will not do her any harm OP.

People are weirdly judgemental!
Lemsip is an excellent alternative if you don't have/don't want paracetamol in tablet form. Odd that it's perfectly acceptable for adults to take liquid paracetamol when it tastes like honey and lemon or blackcurrant, but not when it tastes like strawberry!

Hello. Update here for anyone asking (minus the "OMG I'm surprised" and "Is there any reason" crew)

111 said that she should be fine. However because it's a lot of mg for her weight (she's super skinny, technically underweight) to watch her for some concerning signs. 999 if she feels dizzy or collapses. Or if she has a severe stomach pain or diarrhoea then A&E. And just to be safe they said not to give her any paracetamol for the rest of the day. Meanwhile she can carry on as normal, just drink lots of fluids.

Such a relief. Thank you so much to those replying nicely.

Glad they've replied reassuringly! And I hope your DD feels better soon.

There are some posters on this thread with a serious lack of imagination or ability to realise that sometimes, just sometimes, people do things differently from themselves Wink.

I was reading the calpol 6+ bottle recently and noted the does rate for adults. I’ve never had Calpol and thought I’d give it a go next time I need paracetamol.

DH can’t swallow tablets and I struggled til I was 16+. Other than the cost of calpol I can’t see it wouldn’t be a good idea. Bette than the taste of soluble paracetamol.

Seesawmummadaw · 20/09/2021 15:25

@nhdfj hope she feels better soon

KurtWilde · 20/09/2021 16:51

@nhdfj that's good then, fingers crossed she'll be right as rain
