Milk alternatives

What’s the best milk alternative you can find in Tesco/Sainsbury’s/Lidl for a 13 month old with a very sensitive tummy?

I would ask a medical professional/dietician for advice as most of the plant based milks available don't contain much nutrition, in terms of protein, fat and calories compared to cows milk.

Depends what you mean by sensitive tummy. Allergies? Alpro soya growing up milk and Oatly barista are pretty good in terms of nutrition compared to cows milk.

My sons nutritionist recommends fortified soy ( alpro) for under 5s
Oat/Almond ect sugar free when older if wanted.

I wouldn't give too much soya too a girl. KoKo (that's the brand) tastes just like cows milk. My DD likes oat milk. Perhaps you could mix and match a little

Peanutsandchilli · 19/09/2021 21:11

The chilled whole Oatly was the best for us when my daughter had to go dairy free. Very similar to cow's milk in that it tastes nice and creamy. Other oat milks haven't been as nice, and nut milks/soya are vile imo.

You need to speak to a medically professional to rule out CMPA or lactose intolerance (rare in children) but your lot may need to go completely dairy free.

For a milk alternative you need something high enough in calories and fortified with vitamin D, calcium and iodine. Oatley Barista, Alpro growing up milk are suitable. But if your lo has CMPA then you need to be aware that around 50% of children with CMPA are also allergic to soya.

Yes she has cmpa on neocate at the moment :) x

Trapped wind even though I’ve tried everything for it. She’s on a special milk atm

Have you not had a referral to a paediatric dietician? Our local ones usually gradually transition to oat milk over 12 months. Quite a lot of CMPA kids are also soya allergic.

EagleOrIgel · 20/09/2021 05:14

Can't comment on the dietary issues. We tried Oatly recently and it was very good. Barista is good for making coffee and getting a foam, the kids and I preferred the chilled one (deluxe?}.
