Suddenly getting bad stomach ache after my usual smoothie

I usually have a smoothie for breakfast every morning using banana, frozen blueberries, almond milk, cacao and peanut or almond butter. Delicious! I've had it most mornings for the past 4/5 months.

Yesterday about half an hour after drinking it I got an awful stomach ache, felt a bit sick and sweaty, but the stomach ache was awful. It went away after about 3 hours and I felt fine the rest of the day, ate normally etc. Thought it was a random one-off.

Today I had a different breakfast and then my usual Smoothie for lunch. Again after half an hour I'm having an awful stomach ache. Could I have suddenly developed some kind of allergy/reaction to one of the ingredients? Or maybe dodgy pack of blueberries so should throw them out? All of the ingredients are well within dates.

Sorry not a very interesting thread but am puzzled by this and thinking I need to give up my much-loved smoothie! Just wondering if I'm missing an obvious explanation.

could be.
my food allergy started like that. first only really bad stomach cramps, later itchy mouth and lips...

there is a lot of different foods in your smoothie, will be difficult to untangle.

Thanks, I've not had any other symptoms other than the stomach ache. Very odd.

The almond or the peanut is the most likely to be causing a reaction so maybe try eating just that on its own to test or make the smoothie without one of those and see if it has the same effect.

I would ditch the blueberries. Frozen fruit has been associated with illness outbreaks.

Smoothie sounds lovely though might give it a try Smile

You have to have already been exposed to a substance to develop an allergy to it. It could be an allergic reaction or down to the fibre content or fruit acid. Also worth checking whether any of the ingredients of your smoothie components have been changed and you're sensitive to something that hasn't always been in it.

Could any of ingredients be bad but you didnt realise as frozen

I'm thinking it must be the blueberries so will throw that pack away. Might be a while before I try it again though!

I've had almond/peanut butter on its own and no reaction.

It really is a delicious smoothie!
