Would I be able to print from my phone if I buy a printer?

Sorry, rubbish with modern tech Blush

I'm looking to buy this printer, it's the cheapest I can find

https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9374139?clickSR=slp:term:printers:2:62:1

I only really need it for gathering evidence to send off for my son's DLA. I might occasionally use it again to copy something but I doubt it really

Not sure what else to do as I will need a lot of evidence printing and a local library would probably charge a bomb

Can I just print it all from my phone? I have the documents saved. Or will I have to connect it to a laptop?

Thank you!

I print from my phone with a HP smart printer and it works better from my phone actually.

GreenCloak · 19/09/2021 08:41

Don’t know about that one but I have an HP one, I have an app for it and can print straight from my phone. It wasn’t expensive either

Shylo · 19/09/2021 08:43

Hi! Assuming you have a smartphone (ie not a basic phone that just calls) then you can print directly to the Printer, nothing else needed :)

Wilma55 · 19/09/2021 08:43

I have an HP Envy and print from my phone via WiFi. HP also do good print cartridge deals where you pay a set amount a month and they send new ones before you need them. The printer you linked would also be ok I think.

RampantIvy · 19/09/2021 08:43

It doesn't have Bluetooth, so possibly not.

buzzing · 19/09/2021 08:43

I think so long as it has WiFi connection you should be fine.

MsWalterMitty · 19/09/2021 08:44

I have a Brother Wifi printer and use their app on my iphone to print. Like another poster has said.... it works better from my phone than my laptop

MsWalterMitty · 19/09/2021 08:45

@RampantIvy

It doesn't have Bluetooth, so possibly not.
It doesn’t need bluetooth usually. It’s wifi
RosieCockle · 19/09/2021 08:45

It says: Mobile print enables printing direct from your smartphone
So, yes.

DDiva · 19/09/2021 08:46

It says you can. I have a very similar canon printer and use the canon app, it's very easy.

babblingbumblingbandofbaboons · 19/09/2021 08:46

From the description on that link

“Enjoy straightforward printing, copying and scanning using your smartphone or tablet or directly access cloud storage via PIXMA Cloud Link - all thanks to the Canon PRINT app”

So you’d need to download the Canon PRINT app on your phone, then should be able to use the printer straight from the phone without connecting to the laptop.

TheThreeHeadedBeast · 19/09/2021 08:46

One of the reviews said it was easy to set up but took a few hours to connect to their phone.

Please check out the price of ink cartridges as we have replaced the printers at work because of this. We now use the Epson Ecotank ones

BarbaraofSeville · 19/09/2021 08:48

Almost certainly, providing you have a smartphone. In the spec it says it has Apple Airprint and Google Cloudprint. So if you're needing to print documents, you just need to photograph them with your phone, and they will appear in your online Googledrive, or Apple equivalent within a minute or two if you have auto back up enabled then you can just print from the drive or photo storage.

I also find that it's more reliable to print from my phone than my laptop, which often fails to connect up.

PlasticCupPolitics · 19/09/2021 08:49

Lots of the reviews talk about phone connectivity via wireless being straightforward and needing an app to view errors etc so I’d assume so, depending on your phone I guess!

FreeElf · 19/09/2021 08:49

I have Epson Ecotank as well and inks are so economical. It doesn’t dry up like other printers I’ve had if it isn’t used daily. Any wireless printer should let you print from your phone as long as they are both connected to the same wireless network

honeyisfunny · 19/09/2021 08:50

Thank you all so much! Sorry, I know it seemed a daft question since the answer was actually there if I had a little dig Blush I'm trying to get by on one hours sleep lol

I use an HP printer that allows you to buy into a subscription. I pay £3.50 a month for a 100 sheets. Because it's all online they post you ink when you're running low. Worked so well during lockdown/homeschooling. The printer itself was around £30 for Asda at the time, around 2 years ago.

confusedofengland · 19/09/2021 09:31

Libraries where I work (Essex) charge 15p per A4 black/white sheet or less if it's 50+ copies, so not too bad?

KilledByWitches · 19/09/2021 10:48

I have a reasonably old canon and I print to that via email because it absolutely hates cooperating with my MacBook over wifi.

It means I can also email documents from my phone though presumably.

cannaethink · 19/09/2021 11:03

My bf has this printer and I regularly go round to use it as I find printing at the library a faff. It was easy to set up and connect to with my phone.
The only issue I’ve had has started recently where if I print from my phone it prints it small as if it’s on a5. But the settings say a4. I had to do it from my laptop last time as it just wouldn’t print a4. I didn’t change any settings on the printer, and it printed fine. It took a while to connect the printer and laptop, it kept saying ‘printer offline’ when it wasn’t. But eventually it just sprang into action.

vastgrandupgrade · 19/09/2021 11:08

I think it’s really unlikely that buying a printer and ink will be cheaper than using a printing service for this.

itsgettingwierd · 19/09/2021 11:12

Also have an Hp smart and print from phone and iPad.

I also use a printing plan which works out cheaper and I can change the plan dependent on how much printing I'm required to do at any given time.

PermanentTemporary · 19/09/2021 11:14

I'd agree that if it's really for a one off event, you can use a printing service for less. But it's also true we use our printer infrequently but regularly for school and work stuff.

The other option - ask around to borrow someone else's printer for 15p a sheet? Id happily let a friend use ours.

TheBitterBoy · 19/09/2021 11:19

I have that printer and print from my phone no problem at all, it's very straightforward to set up, you just need it on your WiFi.

HereIfYouNeedMe · 19/09/2021 11:24

@honeyisfunny could someone you know print it at work for you?
