Can I move a fridge-freezer without breaking it?

I have a fridge freezer against one wall of the kitchen. This is the wrong place for it and always has been, but we were lazy and there was always something else in the place where I would like to move it.

Now, I have moved the old thing (a big old wine rack) and would like to put the fridge there instead. It's on the opposite side of the narrow kitchen - about 2 metres away.

Everything I've read about this involves moving a fridge-freezer if you are moving house and advises to defrost everything and wait 24 hours etc.

Is this necessary even if moving a short distance?

Has anybody tried this?

I absolutely know that all our lives would be improved 100% if we moved it, as I keep pointing out to my husband who rolls his eyes and thinks this is a ridiculous idea.

Is it?

I moved mine by carefully wiggling in rather than picking it up so it didn't tip. Then I left it a couple of hours before turning it on and it was fine. So do it either when it's really full so it keeps everything cold or when it's empty.
I did it empty because I needed to clean it anyway.

Yes!
It’ll be on rubber feet so you can just “walk” it across the room. Maybe take out the fridge contents for the ten minutes it takes you but the freezer contents should be fine.

I had a freezer moved by professionals recently with contents left in, was just instructed to leave it untouched for 24 hours after plugging it in at the other end. Total weight might be an issue obviously.
