Lost bank card & no money to get home! WWYD?

I'm away in a different city an hour away from home because I am working at a book festival over the weekend. I paid for lunch in m&s and a few mins later brought my purse out to use the cash machine and my card was gone! Sad m&s don't have it and found nothing when I retraced my steps.

What is the best thing to do...go to the police? Or just show up at the train station with my usual rail card, explain and hope they'll take pity on me?

Also you don't need to know your colleagues well in order for them to withdraw cash for you if you transfer it first it's not costing them anything and is a really minor inconvenience. I'm sure anyone you ask will do it, I certainly would. Start with your supervisor

I'm with NatWest.

On the mobile app, I can report the card as lost and request an emergency cash withdrawal via a code from an ATM.

I don't believe that NatWest are spear and above every other bank out there so assume other banks offer similar services via their apps.

OP, have you got the app on your phone, if so have you looked to see if it has any useful services that could help you in this situation?

I know you're right @liveforsummer. I'm sure my supervisor would've helped me, but she is away until tomorrow.

Now the card is blocked and I could see no one attempted to use it, not even contactless. They also have me a code to use at the ATM. So it has a worked out.

I need to be more careful in future. Thanks all.

Yes I'm able to take cash out within a couple of hours time so that is what I'll do. Feel much calmer now!

Bet you dropped it in M&S and nobody picked it up yet. Good it hasn't been used. Maybe go back and have a scan around, ask again?

Hey @Caramelblonde I went back and had a good look, they took my number. No one has called so I guess it wasn't found?!

Anyway I am home now, got some money out the bank with my passport and card should be here soon! Just bizarre, it disappeared within 2 minutes. Obviously my fault!

Hi, @Lizzie523 glad to hear this! I'm always paranoid something like this will happen .Contactless is going up to £100 soon,so will be ultra careful, but good nobody got to use your cardSmileBrew

Add your card to your phone wallet. The limit is higher then contactless and it means in an emergency you still have access to money

PeppermintMocha · 21/09/2021 08:52

not if you cancel your card when you realise it is missing, though! I can see buying a train ticket or something as an emergency before reporting it missing, but you can't wait too long as someone could be spending on it at the same time as you, and if your bank knows that you realised it was missing and didn't report it, those transactions might not be covered.

Fluffypastelslippers · 21/09/2021 09:50

Ok. Add a different card to your Apple wallet for emergencies.
