there is a hoola hoop outdoor club near me
and another beginners club in the nearest town,
i walk my dog round the field where they practice, all in the open, great but one of them can't hoola hoop at all Grin

how brave is she?

would you risk this?

it is quite popular i guess due to covid to have all these fitness clubs outdoors

Surely if you can’t hula hoop at all then joking a club is a good place to learn. But the downside is getting judged by dog walkers in the process.

Sparklingbrook · 18/09/2021 11:12

Joining

pinkyredrose · 18/09/2021 11:13

Risk? What risk is there? Good on her I say, should she have to hide away until she can use a hoop properly?

AmDillDandin · 18/09/2021 11:16

Is there a danger element to hula hooping that I'm missing? Is it Extreme Hooping, involving fire, or snakes, or razor blades? Are they hooping right at the edge of a disused quarry?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/09/2021 11:17

thinking of buying a hoop myself
apparently the weighted is easier

Yeah I usually join things to learn how to do them. Same with my kids when they were younger. They all learned Irish dancing, but to begin with they didn't have one move, however they're all quite good now.

Exactly. Hopefully during the winter months they can hula hoop indoors judgement free. By next spring the nosy dog walkers will be impressed with the improvement!
lljkk · 18/09/2021 11:21

My sense of rhythm is bad. I can't skip rope & am a terrible dancer. So I'd skip the hula-hooping as likely to be too frustrating. I struggle to tie my shoe laces well.

If you aren't like me then you're probably good; it's good to try new things.

Check out LaurenJumps on Instagram. First picked up a rope in April 2020 and was hopeless. You should see her now!
LynetteScavo · 18/09/2021 11:23

She's probably gone along with a friend in the hope of learning and getting a trimmer waist.

I would go if I had nothing better to do.

LowbrowVictoriana · 18/09/2021 11:26

As @Sparklingbrook says, judgement from passing dogwalkers is the only "risk"

Presumably, she's joined to get exercise, improve her skills and have some fun. Good for her.
No, I wouldn't do it, not because of any 'risk' but just because there are other things that appeal more.

Says the one who's somehow scared of hula hooping
Mariell · 18/09/2021 11:57

I had a hoola hoop when I was young and could easily do it but when my daughter was a teenager she got one and I found I could no longer keep it up!

I persevered though and it didn’t take long to be able to do it. I have a back injury at the moment so wouldn’t be able to do it but they are a fun way to exercise.

I can’t see how someone very overweight would be able to do it though!

User5000 · 18/09/2021 11:58

I would think good on her for trying something new.

You, on the other hand, OP, I would think what a judgemental cow

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/09/2021 11:58

i am large myself and am too scared to do any form of exercise in public.

Maybe you had to be there but it’s coming across as laughing at the fatty trying a new thing at the moment. 🤷‍♀️
MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/09/2021 11:59

@Mariell
is it not possible when you are overweight?

OP posts:
MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/09/2021 12:00

I don’t know if it’s impossible or not. I’ve never seen anyone who is very overweight hoola hooping!

I’m just thinking how hard it would be to keep it up! Having a small waist seems to be key to keeping it up.
