Hi, would like to anyone who lives in Leyland if the Leafy close and area near it is safe because I have heard that it is not. Please help. We are purchasing a house within that area and would not want to subject my family to an unsafe surrounding especially with a toddler. Would appreciate your help.

Sorry I don't know the area but bumping for traffic for you. How far along in the house buying process are you? I'm guessing you're not local to the area if you're asking the question. Have you considered renting in the area first before deciding to buy. It'll save you from making an expensive mistake.

What research have you done so far? Have you asked on local Facebook pages what the area is like. Have you checked the Ofsted reports of local primary schools? Have you walked around the area to get a feel of the local community, checked the community centres & local parks etc? Walk around the area at different tes of the day/night and at weekends. Look for gangs of teenagers hanging around and signs of litterimg/graffiti and damage to public spaces.

This is what I would do before buying a property and I'd also check local crime stats too. If you haven't done the research yet then do it quickly and it's not too late to pull out if you're not happy with the area.

Safe from what?

@FizzyDibdab thank you for your input. I’m just worried because I’ve heard stolen cars around the area. The rest of the points you’ve mentioned we’ve done. Unfortunately, checking the facebook and for any local news on the area were done too late. That is how I found about stolen cars. And for that I got worried of burglary, gang related or drugs issue

I'm not sure you want to read this - there will be worse but it could be better

I used to live in Leyland. That’s at the ‘nice’ end of town. There isn’t really a gang problem, not in the sense as you’d get in big cities anyway. There is a bit of an issue with gangs of youths gathering at McDonalds, which the police and Maccies are working together to tackle.

I’ve lived in Preston, Manchester and Liverpool and the worst areas of Leyland are nothing compared to those areas. Of course there is a bit of crime, like there is anywhere.
Leafy Close isn’t a bad area at all. I suppose it depends what you are comparing it to though. It’s definitely not the Bromx!

FYI looking at those crime stats, most of the ASB is in St Andrew’s Way, which is where the big Tesco is - it’ll be youths gathering aid imagine

It's near Worden Park, which is lovely. Just don't buy a house in Buckshaw Village.

freestyle8 · 27/09/2021 18:58

@Ozberry well, I am comparing it to the neighborhood in Whittle le woods and in Arundel park in Lostock. Unfortunately, we lucked out as someone already bought the house before we were able to view.
