We're going to have to go back to hospital, aren't we? :-(

I'm waiting for a callback from 111 but I feel like I already know how this is going to go. DD (20 months) has had a cough since February. Numerous negative covid tests but a six day stay in hospital in July for upper and lower respiratory tract infections. She was coughing a little worse than usual this evening (however nursery didn't say anything so must have been okay earlier) and her temp was 38.5 so I gave her calpol, put her to bed at 7pm as usual, checked temp an hour later and it was 39.2, checked again twenty minutes ago (at 9.45pm) and it's 40.1. Called 111 and now waiting for someone to phone me.

We're going to have to take her to hospital, aren't we? The calpol should have taken her temp down but it's not, she's getting hotter. I'm dreading this. I'm so emotionally exhausted from my poor little toddler being unwell for so long. As for work tomorrow . . . I started a new job recently and I'm going to need to ask for time off already Sad

Hi everyone - so sorry I didn't update last night, it was 2am by the time we got home from hospital. DD has tonsillitis so no need for an admission, thank goodness, and hopefully the antibiotics will kick in quickly.

I'm so relieved she's okay and wasn't admitted, although I'll need to keep her home today of course.

Thank you so much for all your messages!

Really glad to hear she’s okay - it sounds exactly like what happened with my DD and tonsillitis. Hope she feels better soon! Flowers

I did wonder as that's when DD has struggled with temp even when older and having had Nurofen.

Good news is that the antibiotics (although disgusting) work really quickly.

Hope she's back to normal soon.

Just to add to this in case other people see it - my 5 year old developed sepsis from a cough and temp - I feel sick when I remember it, I didn't realise how unwell she was at all -only because a neighbour who is a doctor looked at her that I took her to A and E. She was rushed to the front of the queue, put on full oxygen for days and her kidneys started to fail.

I had absolutely no idea she was so sick until we arrived at hospital

peachgreen · 17/09/2021 09:21

I had almost exactly this thread, word for word, last week - it also turned out to be tonsillitis. It wasn't even that bad, but still pushed her temp to over 41! Terrifying. Glad she's okay.

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/09/2021 09:40

Oh that’s a relief. Tonsillitis can be nasty. But she’s been seen quickly and you should see the antibiotics to start to take affect within the next day.

Boilingicicle · 17/09/2021 09:46

So pleased to hear all is ok. Tonsillitis can make people of all ages really ill. My temperature used to go so high with it as a child I would hallucinate. I hope he is soon on the mend and you can get a bit of a rest.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 17/09/2021 09:46

Oh I hope she feels better soon! DS 14 has had tonsillitis twice in the last couple of years, it's really not nice. FlowersFlowersFlowersFlowers

@Ambo21

You need to get her to a and e NOW!! Never mind any phone call...GO!!
Fucking hell, way to scare someone. How about you stop being so dramatic and learn to say things in a calming, reassuring way?
IamJuliaJohnson · 17/09/2021 11:26

Well done @RedPandaFluff - I have had a 3yo develop sepsis from tonsillitis. It’s the one thing I always ask my friends when their kids are unwell: have you managed to look in their throat? It’s an easy place to spot an infection.

LizzieSiddal · 17/09/2021 11:50

Thank goodness she’s ok.

My Dd was very susceptible to tonsillitis, so it was always the first place I looked when she was under the weather.
