I’m in London tomorrow evening from around 7pm. Hotel in Holbourn. I’ve no idea what to do with the evening until bed time. Drawing a complete blank . I know we could just wander Coventry garden Leister square but I like the idea of having a plan to visit somewhere .
The following day is Shard and a show.
Any ideas ? Help .

The British museum is open until 8.30 on Fridays

Use your oyster cards to go on a Thames Clipper boat trip and see the sights from the river.

Thanks . I’ll Google those . ( don’t have an Oyster card Blush)

I'd get one unless you'e planning on walking everywhere - which is a GREAT way to see London, don't get me wrong, but some things are quite far apart!

Cheers @onlyliving . Probably should but my kids hate the tube .I have Never used Uber before as it’s not in our town but I’ve downloaded the app in the hope I can use them instead . Good idea ?

Will you need dinner? Kill a couple of hours in a good restaurant! And I’d use the buses rather than Uber to save some cash.

Is oyster cheaper than just tapping a contactless card? I always do that!

Palavah · 17/09/2021 05:56

Download citymapper, it will show you walk/bus/tube options.

Tomorrow evening I'd walk down to the south bank food market from the hotel and pick up some food from there.

You can take in Leicester Square/Covent Garden on the way there or back.

Thanks for comments . Really helpful. Yes, will need to eat . Want to avoid the chains if we can , although is TFI Friday still around ? I used to like them as a child.
I’m rubbish with London busses, even when I lived there briefly I couldn’t work them out so always used the tube .
I wondered about tapping contactless but as I will be trying to tap 3 in and 3 out I assumed I couldn’t do that .
Blimey , I’m such an old fart now. I grew up 20 miles from London and lived there for a while and yet I seem to bed really unconfident about going back for 1 night. I’ve not been much since the Hippodrome was a night club full of underaged “wild childs” Grin

Don’t use Ubers if you’re remaining very Central, the traffic is hellish and it will take forever. Most places will be walkable.

I am a Londoner and I looked this up as I didn’t know! You need to pay for your DC with a separate card if you tap your contactless. So maybe easier to get an Oyster card each.
I don’t pay for my DC when we travel as they are under 11 so it’s never occurred to me.

Do your teens not have their own debit cards? Even if they are not contactless they can be added to Apple Pay (I'm assuming Android too) and used as contactless.
