Birthday cake logistics

So, it's DP's birthday on Monday. I have ordered a personalised cake to be collected from the local cake shop, which I had planned to pick up on the Monday, Turns out they are closed then and I have to get it on Sunday. At 5pm.

OK, one would think, except that we have an open plan downstairs, straight through from the front door, and I have no idea how to get it into the house without him seeing as he's likely to be in the living area, and telling him to do one up stairs while I nip to the shop would raise suspicions. And I would probably have to put it in the fridge (can possibly hide it in a cupboard until the morning after he goes to work, would that be ok?). It's not possible to have it visible in a box as he sleep walks, and more annoyingly, sleep eats (guess who finds this out by the crumbs in the kitchen in the morning...)

Any genius tactics welcome. Thanks!

He once slept ate a chunk out of a massive pork pie I had bought for my dad's 70th birthday picnic. I was unamused. In his defence, he didn't know about it until I opened the firdge, swore and showed him, and did go out to buy another, but he can';t be trusted around comestibles at night.

I would leave it in the car boot. Or at a family members home.

Have you got a car?
Hide it in the boot

Leave it at a friend’s house? Shed, garage?
Put it in a big box and take it upstairs? Just walk through the open plan downstairs. If he says anything, tell him that people with upcoming birthdays shouldn’t be so nosey.

Family in Birmingham, we are in London, and it's his car (I don't drive) so accessing the keys woudl be tricky - good ideas though. Actually, I might ask the neighbour to hide it, I take in enoguh parcels for her and we get on...I don't want to be a CF though, would that be too big and ask?

I can combine picking it up with getting some bits from the shop so would get away with the trip....

It's not a big deal to ask you neighbour!
I wouldn't leave it in the car boot unless it's a fruit cake with fondant icing.

Sponge with chocolate icing, yes I think asking S next door is the best plan.

After all the cf threads, I didn't want to be one! To be fair, we've mopped blood off her toddler when she ran into a coffee table, and S turned up all panicked at 9pm, so I think I'm in credit there.
