Oh god, we have some oak sleepers on our drive, well we did anyway but have had to move them to the back yesterday and fucking hell the number of scuttley massive bastards on them 😫

They've been dealt with (thanks DH) but now I have a horrible feeling they were heading to the house, found the wood pile and decided to shack up there instead. And now the pile has gone.....😬

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 17/09/2021 11:29

I'm loving the take up on calling them Steves Grin

Crunchymum · 17/09/2021 11:39

We had the most beautiful 6 legged garden spider build a splendid web in one of our windows. It's been fascinating watching him (we particularly enjoyed meal time)

We named him Geoffrey

Sadly Geoffrey wasn't there this morning and his web was gone too? We miss him.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/09/2021 11:40

Spiders are lovely - we leave them where they are to get on with their lives - but they are messy eaters.

Needhelp101 · 17/09/2021 12:29

Ours have had babies too!

My grandad insisted that all spiders are called Fred. My son thinks the mummy cellar spider should be called Gloria.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 17/09/2021 12:48

I havent seen any Steves or big ones here. Id like to see some Steves though, it'll give me a bit of reassurance against the massive ones, because they're most definitely here. They just hide and make themselves knows at the worst times.

TheRabbitStoleMyHat · 17/09/2021 13:00

We call them wispy spiders too!

I’ve stopped getting rid of them since I found out they eat the horrible beast spiders.

Strokethefurrywall · 17/09/2021 13:08

We have a family too, they’re called The Webster’s 😄
We have ridiculously high ceilings so they live happily up there until we get out the long rod and clear the webs.

dontgobaconmyheart · 17/09/2021 13:23

Absolutely awful scenes OP, some things are best kept private Grin

nannannanana · 17/09/2021 21:31

Just seen a cellar spider I am actually pleased to see it as it will eat the big hairy ones I keep finding dead. Maybe it's already doing it's work Grin

CandidaAlbicans2 · 17/09/2021 21:56

I see your spindly critters and raise you these cute garden spiders 🥰😎 They've grown up and now there are amazing webs all over the place. I also have hundreds of non-webby ones in my lawn, so much so I can't walk on it without disturbing loads.

@OrangeJuiceAndNoodles

Have I entered a parallel universe? Spider babies are emphatically not cute!

You are all insane.

They're the cutest things in the world.

I'm really pleased to see a thread celebrating spiders. Gives me hope that the next generation won't be of the oh so hilarious burn down the house ilk. All phobias aside, we are far too relaxed about destroying spiders rather than coexisting with them.
nannannanana · 20/09/2021 21:39

In my fucking bed. Got it in the glass. Had to pull the bed out. Lift the mattress up Because it ran off behind the headboard.

DH away tonight. Me and DD screaming trying to catch it. Like a fuckimg carry on film.

Got it In the glass. Neighbour came and removed it because I couldn't get it down the stairs without the paper slipping.

Am still shaking. Will have a night terror now In the next few days it happens everytime I see one unexpectedly.

Size of it though.

Cellar slider obv on a day off. Or just thought fuck that.

I’d like this thread to stay filled with cute whispy spider babies and no giant hairy house spiders please and thank you!

I don’t hurt any of them but the big beasts give the willies while the whispy ones are cute.

Proper arf at The Webster’s Grin.

Woahbodyforrrrm · 20/09/2021 22:07

I'm so god to hear it's not just an urban myth that the Steves eat the fat hairy bastards! I am terrified of spiders but for some reason not the Steves. I think it's because they tend not to move from their chosen corner.

However, I'm concerned that my Steves don't seem to spin webs. Certainly not that I can see of. I can't see a trap for the fat bastards to get caught in!!

Albgo · 20/09/2021 22:14

I've always called the long legged whispy ones spingle spangles. 🤷‍♀️

Bichette · 20/09/2021 22:20

All spiders in our house are called Charlotte.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 20/09/2021 22:21

I started a thread earlier about a Steve on my bed. It ran away and I'm just hoping it's gone

@nannannanana I hope you're able to forget about it. I always feel shaken up after a big one too

Yeah I am ok now thank you for asking. Very proud of myself for getting in in a glass.

I had no choice! DD was screaming. I was screaming. I felt so bad for her. I've made her scared because I know it is learned behaviour. From me, my mum, my Nan, probably her mum before her.

They just send me wild though. All sensible thoughts go out the window. It's bizarre. I know they won't hurt me!

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 20/09/2021 22:42

@nannannanana I'm the same but you did really well to get it! I wouldn't have been able to!

It's hard. I have a baby boy and I do t want to pass on the phobia as it's horrible plus her may be able to remove them in a few years

I had to call my neighbour last week as there was a massive one in the house... Blush

nannannanana · 20/09/2021 23:24

@BunnytheFriendlyDragon you will be able to I promise you. If you need to you will be able to do it.
Your fear goes out the door a bit when you have to

nannannanana · 20/09/2021 23:24

And I still called the neighbor
