Tips for packing up a flat

I'm not very organised. Can anyone share their tips for packing up a flat please. It's rented but DD and I are going to move in with my mum for a few months. Furniture and most of our stuff will be going to storage.

I'd say first of all declutter so you don't have that awful feeling afterwards of 'Why did I pay to store this shit??'
Then my biggest tip would be to buy boxes that are all the same size so they stack well. Don't bother with labelling the contents, just number the boxes and keep a note in your phone of what's in which box. Good luck!

Proper boxes used for removals - search Amazon for 'moving house boxes'. They are strong. Plus tape. Tape long each seam - horizontal and lengthways - along the bottom. Tape the top shut.

Roll of bubblewrap for pots / china / glasses.

Label each box with category of contents. (books / kitchen utensils / bathroom cupboard or whatever).

Chuck stuff out as you go.

It takes longer than you think, especially if you chuck as you go.

Thank you.

We've missed this month's deadline for handing in our notice. We will be moving at the beginning of November. Am going to start decluttering as I do my cleaning before then.

When packing up my flat I did a bit at a time then the regular living stuff on the last few days.
Got loads of boxes for free from the local shop-crisp boxes work fine.

It is very hard getting rid of furniture arm.

Start selling it giving away anything you don’t want on Marketplace ASAP.

Furniture will be going in to storage.

Are you paying for storage? If so, think really hard about storage costs vs cost of replacing furniture.
