Where to advertise an admin job?

I've name changed to get wise mumsnetters views because we can't figure it out.

DH has his own business (think medical/legal) and he can't keep up with the admin side anymore. He needs someone part time to take calls, book appointments and send invoices but can't seem to find anyone.

Where is best to advertise? (He's currently on Indeed) any tips on recruiting?

Do you need a permanent member of staff or would something like a virtual PA work?

findingsomeonejob · 14/09/2021 22:40

It would need to be the same member of staff but working remotely would be fine I think

You can get the same person via a virtual PA type thing.
Or advertise on something local like nextdoor. You might attract someone looking for school hours if it's part time.

I did a similar job when my DC were small. If you can be a little flexible with hours, it might appeal to someone with school aged DC. But before I was employed, my employer used a virtual PA type company who were very good. And it's easier than employing someone. I think it was this one but it was years ago now.

It's much easier that way as you don't have to worry about covering holidays.

Linked in for experienced candidates, next door if the role is suitable for newbies.

I usually advertise on local Facebook groups and just ask for CV's. I would be honest about the rates of pay. We've managed to successfully fill a number of roles this way. Otherwise Indeed.

Thanks everyone, I hadn't heard of these sites so it's helpful

First things first is to be clear on what the candidate needs to do: what skills and knowledge they need, how many hours you need them to work and when they need to work (if applicable).

From that you can decide what type of job this is and the most appropriate forum. I'd go to Indeed for a full PA or EA job with significant responsibility, not a part time one with limited responsibility. For that I'd start by advertising locally on Nextdoor etc.
