I think , I was lying on bed reading my phones and suddenly got heart palpitations and hands and feet all numb and can’t move them . NHS 24 have a 45 minute wait and I’m scared I’m going to die . I don’t know what to do . I don’t want to call 999 . I can’t stop shaking and dizzy and scared

Can a friend take you to A&E to be checked over, or can you take a taxi there?

It’s really reassuring to be told everything is ok. And if it’s not for any reason then you’re in the right place.

Everyone in A&E would be glad you came in to get checked out. It’s quick and easy for them to spot if there’s a problem, you won’t be wasting anyone’s time.

You don’t need NHS to tell you that on the phone, I would go in and out my mind at rest. I have done in the past, and been very glad of it.

Take care, drink water, follow the breathing patterns here, get everything checked for reassurance and keep chatting to us here xx

Hop in cab to A&E OP, you’ll feel better for it

That's good that you have potentially identified your trigger. How is your breathing now op? Are you able to sip water as a pp suggested?

I had panic attacks in my 20's. concentrating on my breathing made it worse.
you need a book called self help for your nerves by Dr claire weekes I imagine you can get it on Kindle )
4 steps....face it, accept it, float through it..Let time pass. ....its simple and it works. hth

You poor thing. It's so stressful when you go to uni and have to meet new people and live in a strange place.
You'll be ok.
You are breathing in too much and not breathing out.
Just concentrate on taking a breath in and then out.
Try smelling something strong - perfume or Vicks.

Remember you're body is putting you in flight or fight mode. You're ready for battle of running away - you're full of adrenaline and it will take a while to feel back to normal.
Just keep breathing - breathe the panic away.
Remember you're safe
Remember nothing is going to happen to you.
Just breathe slowly in and out.
Or do something like colour or doodle. Angry birds is a good way of distracting yourself.

Or make a plan - an amazing fantasy holiday - or create your dream house in your head ~ plan every room and every detail.

Panic attacks are horrible but you're clearly an amazing person and you'll be ok

Panic attack veteran here! Hopefully your propranolol will be kicking in shortly, but just try to remember all those awful physical symptoms you have are purely down to adrenaline. It's an amazing hormone when it's being produced when needed, but a bloody nightmare when your body just decides to release a shit tonne out of the blue.
The symptoms are scary when they are happening, but they will subside and won't leave any lasting damage.
Try this, focus your eyes onto something in front of you, just the wall will do, then keep your eyes really still, your eyes automatically move when your brain is thinking, so by keeping your eyes fixed, it can't think, which will calm you down
