Can we please get a TW for the threads that are labelled "what you eat in a day"

They are shocking enough for someone without an eating disorder (and it's clear a lot of posters on there do). I have worked with a lot of people with eating disorders and this is the kind of thread that fuels and normalises them, so I think we need a bit more protection considering the other things that get TW e.g. abortion.

I can't be the only one that thinks this?

And if you write on those threads and don't have a proper with eating, surely you can understand those that do?

I'm a recovered anorexic. I think those threads will be clicked on by those with eating disorders regardless of TW.

Ninkanink · 14/09/2021 19:05

A trigger warning is precisely that - a warning of upsetting or difficult content where the title doesn’t convey it.

A thread title of ‘what do you eat in a day’ already carries a clear TW within the title. Anyone with any faculty should be able to know what the content is and predict how it’s going to go.

Camomila · 14/09/2021 19:06

I'm not sure why they need a trigger warning as it's obvious from the title they are going to be about food.

I thought a trigger warning was for vague titles where you don't know what it is going to be about until you open the thread eg "Really upsetting day" [trigger warning: covid] etc.

WhatsMyNameGonnaBeNow · 14/09/2021 19:06

Is the title not warning enough??

Seesawmummadaw · 14/09/2021 19:08

It tells you what it’s about in the title. Confused

Seesawmummadaw · 14/09/2021 19:09

Also as a recovering anorexia any food thread is triggering at times! It doesn’t mean people shouldn’t post it, it means that I shouldn’t look!

Mariell · 14/09/2021 19:10

I would wait for people with eating disorders to campaign for a thread warning otherwise it’s just another case of someone demanding someone thing on behalf of another group of people!

Mariell · 14/09/2021 19:10

Oh the irony of the ops name!

Shouldn’t your user name carry a warning?

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2021 19:12

Exactly. Just hide the thread from the Active list without opening it.
TheProvincialLady · 14/09/2021 19:12

I have anorexia. Don’t be so daft. People with eating disorders are responsible for their own choices, including whether to read something “triggering.” Everything is triggering to someone.

spotcheck · 14/09/2021 19:16

Can we save the title 'Trigger Warning' for content that is genuinely upsetting?

WhatsMyNameGonnaBeNow · 14/09/2021 19:22

Well exactly! This is an internet chat forum, free to join and accessible by anyone with WiFi where any topic, any word could be “triggering” to somebody on the planet. What “protection” is it you think the adult users who willingly read threads are owed?

Can people not just accept that we all have a responsibility for our own well being and that MNHQ are not actually Supreme Mummy whose job it is to protect us from [insert own thing that triggers/offends/makes me feel bad/causes anxiety]? The bloody navel gazing and why won’t everybody centre meeeee on this site is getting exhausting

This. And a TW for threads that may be triggering for disordered eating is a reasonable request.
Redglitter · 14/09/2021 19:29

I can't be the only one that thinks this

Would appear you are. As pp have said, why would you need TW in a thread title that makes it totally obvious what the thread is about.

Mariell · 14/09/2021 19:43

That’s one of the best posts I’ve read on here. It seems we have become a nation of whinging drips finding anything and everything offensive!

Mariell · 14/09/2021 19:43

My post was to @WhatsMyNameGonnaBeNow

lljkk · 14/09/2021 19:46

can we just have "someone might say something upsetting!" warning on every thread? Seems like the only logical end point.

Don't call me insensitive cow. I have had (or am in recovery from, if you prefer) an eating disorder. I can't abide by idea that world should dance around me. Don't infantilise us ppl with mental health issues. I can do something to protect myself.

i 'd hide the food topic completely if I was still so sensitive. I hate the word 'triggering' anyway & if things upset you (like reading posts from internet randoms on a food forum) then don't do them.

VladmirsPoutine · 14/09/2021 20:03

I don't think those threads need a TW.

Hogwarts4Christmas · 14/09/2021 21:03

Lol, the irony of your name @BiscuitLover09876.

YABVU and a snowflake. People can read. If it's in the title as you say, no warning ⚠️ is needed.

Damnloginpopup · 16/09/2021 06:44

TW Biscuit

BlackberryMuncher · 16/09/2021 06:50

🙄why do people do this? Claim things are a problem for other people, who generally don't have a problem with it?

That aside, you don't need a TW on a thread that's perfectly obvious what it's about!

You're one of those people who would put the warning on a bag of peanuts 'this may contain peanuts' aren't you.

ShrillSiren · 16/09/2021 06:54

I don't understand how people who need trigger warnings actually manage to get through life in the real world.
Take some responsibility for yourself instead of needing to be treated with kid gloves for everything.
