Where do you all buy berries from?

Hello

I know this might not be the right topic for this but my family LOVE berries (strawberries, blueberries and raspberries in particular) and we usually shop at Aldi but their quality for fresh produce in particular is vile. Things end up mouldy within a day of buying and unless eaten the same day, end up going to waste and when trying to save for a house deposit, can't really afford to keep chucking away constantly.

Where do you buy your berries from?
I have tried Tesco recently only for them and there's a big shop near us so doesn't take my more time quickly running in and they're great in comparison.

Anywhere else? Grin

I only buy them in season, they're not worth the money the rest of the time. Strawberries are pretty much at an end now.

I agree they are only nice in season. There is nothing as nice as a tomato or strawberry you grow yourself.

Lidl blueberries are ok.

For winter, wean them on to frozen berries. Aldi frozen blueberries and also sour cherries are v good.

M&S. It's one of the main things I missed during lockdown.

But yes, they do ideally need to be in season too.

We move onto apples now.

BerryWorld berries sold by Amazon Fresh and Ocado are lovely and have a long fridge life.

Raspberries: a few canes with different fruiting seasons in the garden. They are really easy to look after: mine were planted 7 years ago and by year 2 we had a sensible portion each day. After that I started cutting back new canes that spread. The autumn variety will be good for a few more weeks until first frost.

We grow them. Autumn fruiting ones are dead easy - just stake them up. Picked half a pound off on Sunday from 4 plants and it’s only the start of the season.

We never have a bother with Aldi berries, but I suppose we do eat them within 4/5 days of purchase.
